"Stop holding my hand. What if someone sees us?" Yue said, as they walked out of the laundry room.
"Are you ashamed of me now? I thought you didn't care what others think." Didi stopped in his tracks, narrowing his eyes on her.
She sighed and turned to look at him. She liked him but this was not the right time. As long as the unsub was out there, anyone in close contact with her would be in potential danger.
"Didi, I care about your safety. I'm a target. It will devastate me if anything were to happen to you." She dropped her tone of voice, feeling a lump in her throat.
She felt his hand cupping her face and her eyes met his gentle ones.
"I understand, Yue. I respect you. But you are coming home with me tonight. I won't let you leave my sight."
She laughed. "Didn't you say Lin is coming home today?"
"Oh shit! What a bad timing. I'll ask her to sleep over at her friend's place. I can cook for you after gym."
"Didi, the case. We need to stay focused." She took a step back and reached for his ass before squeezing it. He yelped.
"What the—?"
She raised her eyebrow, and smirked. "Your ass is mine too."
"Damn, Yue, I'm hard again. Can we—?"
"Oh, hello! What brings you to this part of the building? Looking for me?"
They jumped. Miles was standing in front of them with a lunch bag.
Yue cleared her throat. "Yes, Miles. We were about to go to your work station. I needed you to check the CCTV on the day I was kidnapped. Am I right, Officer Wang?"
"Absolutely." Didi nodded his head. "Are you eating now, busy?"
Miles shook his head and they arrived at his work space in five minutes. "Let me draw up the video files for you." Miles said as he said down in front of his computer.
Again, Yue was impressed with how coordinated his working space was. She noticed his collection of books neatly arranged at the side.
"Miles, I didn't know you like Sun Tzu," she opened the book, just as something fell off from a page. It was an old photo of a few children.
"Which one is you, Miles?" She asked casually.
As soon as he saw what she was holding, he stood up and touched his nape. "The one sitting down on the flower pot."
"Oh yes, you have the same smile. Are these your siblings?"
"Buddies." He held out his hand, so Yue passed the photo back to him. There was something different in his manner. She could sense he was nervous. Or was she overly sensitive?
"Let's go over the videos. I was kidnapped in the basement."
"Didn't we run through the videos earlier? We didn't find anyone suspicious."
"I have a hunch. Play that again, Miles."
They were watching the video when suddenly Yue shouted. "Pause it there! Can you see? This is a recording! Someone recorded this and override the original one. That car was not there earlier."
"This guy is smart! But how did he get into our system?" Didi asked.
"He is a hacker. Miles, you can hack into any computer system, right?" She said eyeing him.
"Yes if I want to." This time his eyes met hers confidently. "But why would I? I'm a law-abiding citizen. And a cop."
Yue slowly nodded her head. "When was the last time you went back to Beijing, Miles? You must missed your life there."
