Pictures

The smell of smoke filled his lungs as he sat in front of the fire place gripping pictures. His tentacles twitched and thrashed as he threw another picture into the fire. Nightmare looked at one of the pictures he had grabbed from the box. It was of him and his brother. Dream.

Why was he burning the pictures? To try and forget about his brother he despised. Nightmare growled as he went to throw the picture in the fire when a delicate hand held his to stop him.

"Nighty?" Cross spoke his voice soft as he looked at his husband concerned. The taller stared at the other before he looked away as he didn't say anything. He heard shuffling and felt Cross sit down beside him as the other leaned their head on his shoulder. The smaller grabbed one of his tentacles gently making the other flinch slightly, Cross soon began to pet the tentacle soothingly making the other relax. "What's wrong?"

The other only grunted in response, not facing Cross, but not really pushing him away. Cross looked at the picture in Nightmare's hands and saw the picture of him and his brother, Dream when they we're still kids. Cross smiled at how cute they looked. "You looked cute as a kid"

"What? Do I not look cute now?"

"Of course you do Nighty, but your more handsome then cute"

Nightmare gave an amused snort and shook his head, this made Cross smile. "So Nightmare... why are you burning these pictures?" Cross asked softly as he looked at Nightmare. The taller only hummed as he seemed hesitant before he sighed, knowing he won't be able to hide this from his husband forever.

"I know you used to date my brother.... Dream..." Nightmare muttered softly, this surprised Cross. The smaller did date the positive skeleton when he was still in the void but Cross soon fell in love with Nightmare and they ended it. Cross didn't expect the other to find out, more or less be upset about it. Cross silence made Nightmare continued.

"So I wanted to erase every memory I had of him....and that weak version of me....I don't want you to go back with him....Or go near him....." he growled out as his tentacles lashed except for the one in Cross' grasp. The monochrome skeletons face softened as he leaned close to the other and kissed his cheek pulling the taller out of his thoughtful rage to look at his lover. "Oh Nighty....That was a long time a ago...I don't love him, I love you"

"But what if-"

"I only love you Nightmare"

"But if-"

"Nightmare, I wouldn't have married you if I didn't love you"

"But-"

"NIGHTMARE!"

Cross cupped the others cheeks to make him face him as the smaller glared at him, he was serious. "I love you, not Dream not anyone, only you Nightmare.... understand?" Cross asked softly as he looked at him expression. The other nodded and Cross smiled and kissed him softly, making the taller cup his cheek softly. Soon Nightmare wrapped his arms around Cross' waist as he pulled him on his lap as he kissed him deeply, making Cross wrap his arms around Nightmare's neck.

While Cross was distracted Nightmare slipped a tentacle to grab the box as he threw it in the fire gently. The smaller seemed to hear the fire go stronger and pulled away from the kiss to look at that box but Nightmare tried to pull him into another kiss to distract him.

But Cross was persistent and pulled away and soon looked at the box that was slowly burning. He swiftly grabbed the box and pulled out of the fire and winced in pain as his hand got burned badly. The box was made out of metal so it was worse. The box made a thud as it crashed to the ground and scattered the pictures everywhere.

Nightmare quickly rushed to Cross to try and tend to his wound. Shock and panicked by the others sudden action "Cross! Are you-"

"I-Im fine..ngh.... Nightmare" Cross tried to give a reassuring smile but it looked more pained then reassuring. The taller stared at him in disbelief before grabbing his hand gently which made Cross stifle a whimper, the other started emitting a cyan glow that seemed to pulse through Cross' bones as he started to heal Cross.

It was silent. Too silent and Cross grew slightly nervous.

Nightmare soon broke the silence. "Why did you do that?" Nightmare grumbled as he didn't look up at Cross. The smaller stayed silent for a moment as he watched Nightmare carefully he could tell the other was angry at him for doing something so reckless. "I....I did it cause I know you care about these.....even if you deny it..." He mumbled softly.

"I don't... It's all just my weak self and my stupid brother....."

"Stop saying that!" Cross frowned as he cupped Nightmare's cheeks to make him face him, his hand was healed enough that the pain was numb. "Your not weak! Stop saying that you are!" He kissed Nightmare's cheek. "Never forget that...."

Nightmare was silent before he suddenly hugged Cross and pulled him close to his chest as he nuzzled the crook of his neck, mumbling stuff Cross couldn't make out. The smaller just smiled softly and rubs his back soothingly and soon the taller spoke. "I don't deserve you...."

"Awe Night-"

"You should have joined my brother"

"Wh- Nightma-"

"I have no idea how you fell in love with me"

"Night-!"

"Why did I take you away from your au-"

"Nightmare! Shut the fuck up!" Cross growled as he kissed him to shut him up which Nightmare- who was shock at the sudden out burst- melted into the kiss as he hugged Cross closer till he was basically straddling his hips. Soon they pulled away as they panted slightly, Cross huffed. "I love you Nightmare so much, and Don't you forget it..."

He wrapped his arms around his neck as he pressed their foreheads together as he sighed. "I wouldn't have married you if I didn't love you, Nighty....how many times do I have to repeat myself ?"

Nightmare hummed and nuzzled Cross as he kissed his cheek. "Mmm... I'm sorry..." He grumbled as he looked at Cross with his single cyan eye light. The smaller smiled softly and moved his hand to his cheek as he rubbed it soothingly which made Nightmare's tentacles wag slightly, he had to hold in his chuckle.

The two stayed in each other's embraced, keeping each other warm as they watched the fire dance.
