We walked to Louise's car parked right in front of our door. Looking at that black Range Rover, I kind of felt lame with our old pick up. Louise opened her door, but I continued admiring the car. "Well, I know you're athletic, but do you really want to walk all the way up there?", Louise said and pointed at the foggy horizon covering the mountains in the distance. I didn't even notice I was staring. I nodded, but didn't react any further. She realized this was sort of a tensed joke and got in. I followed. The Range Rover was amazing from the inside too. There was huge space for my feet, the seat was heated and very comfortable. The seats were made of black leather with red seam. On the doors there were LED panels, switching their colors from pink to purple. Louise started the engine and the radio started to play Taylor Swift. "It takes about two hours to get to the lodge", Louise announced and turned down the volume of the radio. "I like Taylor, you don't have to turn it down", I said, looking at my watch. It was 8:15 am. "Alright", Louise answered and turned the volume up again. The bass of "willow" relaxed me and I leaned back into my seat.
Louise was a fine driver. We went along the Main Street, where everybody was preparing for Christmas. "Only two more days", I thought. The street had become quite narrow as lots of cars were parked along the road. There was a long line in front of the local grocery store and people left the shop with their hands full of huge bags. I liked the chains of lights around the houses and the Frosty statues in the gardens. Main Street here was nondescript in comparison to the one of my hometown. None of the houses were higher than two floors and most of them were made of wood. At the end of the road, we passed the huge "Come back soon" sign, but instead of driving straight ahead, Louise slowed down and took a pathway to the right. I straightened in my seat. I had never taken another way out of Melville than the Main Street. "It's fine", Louise said. The ground below was uneven and we hopped over the mud. We drove through a huge field. The fog surrounded us like a cold blanket and I was happy to be inside the warm car. A little snowflake landed on the front window. More followed sound. We entered the woods and it suddenly became even darker. I began to feel tired again. Watching the snowflakes on my window, I fell asleep.
