"There's been a WHAT?!" I roared, standing on my hind legs for a moment and flaring my wings. Clay winced, and I thought, Did I get too loud?! Luckily, he proceeded to tell us, "Um, a murder. We found the bodies behind one of the bookshelves in the history classroom." For whatever reason, he looked at me when he spoke the next sentence. "There's nothing we could have done for them." I sat down heavily as I realized what happened. "Tempest," Clay said nervously, "you are the only SkyWing left at Jade Mountain." Cold scales touched my back, and I jumped a little, teeny, tiny bit, but then I realized that it was just Winter putting his wing around me. I gratefully twined my tail around his, happy that someone cared. Qibli noticed all this, and I could imagine his train of thought at that moment. I think he's thinking, 'Okay, they're obviously in a relationship together, but when did it start, where did it start, and how did it start? Do they need to have a moment? Should the rest of us go away?' Moon gave me a strange look. As if she knows what I'm thinking. As if the old NightWing powers are back. But they can't be, right? We were just told that they were gone, so they can't be back! Can they? I thought, and I decided to see if she could read my mind, and so, I thought as hard as I could at Moon, MUSHROOMS AND MONGEESE. She tried to stifle the laugh and smile as best she could, but I caught a flicker of a chuckle and a sliver of a smile. I thought, I bet her train of thought is saying, 'The plural of mongoose is mongooses, not mongeese, but it's still funny.' Also, it's true, the NightWing powers are back, and Moon is the one to bring them. I also kind of want to see the bodies. I feel like someone I used to like was killed. Moon looked back at Clay, and asked, "I'm not an expert in SkyWing traditions, but may we see the bodies, for Tempest's sake?" Now I definitely know that Moon is a mind-reader. "Um, yeah, sure, just don't tell anyone else that there was a murder, okay?" Clay gently replied. He led the way down the hall, and the Jade Winglet followed him to the murder.
