Chapter 14: The Prophecy

When it was time to gather together in the separate winglets, I noticed something unpleasant. "Why is Gannet with my winglet?" I growled. Gannet, also known as King AARRGGHH, was sitting with the Jade Winglet and my brother and harassing everyone there, especially Sandstorm, Winter, Moon, and Kinkajou. I swooped up high into the air, forming a plan in my head. "Hey!" I barked. Everyone turned their heads towards the sound, which is what I relied on them to do for the plan to go on. I made a great show of tucking my wings in right above Gannet and diving at a speed that looked uncontrollable and impossible to stop. I sped faster and faster down towards him. He yelped and leaped out of the way when I seemed at my fastest (which was about twelve feet above the ground), at which point, I flared my wings and flapped only once, and it helped me to land gracefully on the floor, therefore making Gannet look like a wimp and making me look like an experienced stuntdragoness. Every dragon watching gave me a round of applause. When it finally died down, everyone gathered in their winglets, and as I passed Gannet, I flicked my tail barb in his face, and whispered, "Stay off my turf and away from my friends, wimp." I triumphantly laid down in between Winter and Moon, and said in a cheerful tone of voice, "Hey, guys, how was your sleep?" They all gawked at me except for Sandstorm, Winter, and Moon. Moon was slyly smiling because she and I shared a secret and she knew I knew how her night's sleep was, but Sandstorm and Winter were proudly smiling as if even if I murdered everyone but their loved ones and my loved ones, they would still love me to the ends of eternity. I returned the smile to all of them, and I asked, "Well, anyone hungry?" Suddenly, Moon cried out, and it made me want to curl up in the bottom of a volcano. It made me feel as if everything happy had just suddenly died off. Qibli caught her, and her eyes went blank, and she stared at the tip of Jade Mountain which was thousands of feet above us. Moon said in an eerily layered voice that was devoid of emotion, "There will come a time when dragons will suffer and scavengers will become tougher, and if a dragon gets sucked into the abyss, only a true love's first kiss will save everyone and everything." Moon shook her head, and her eyes and voice were hers again. She helped herself out of Qibli's arms, and she asked nervously, "What just happened?"
