I successfully held the demon back, and it jumped away from me.
"Mother couldn't handle a couple of kids?" The demon spoke, causing me to tense. So it's part of this weird family?
"And you," The demon was suddenly in my face. I could feel his breath hit my skin as I cringed back. "How did you detect me? That's quite impressive little girl." His long tongue snaked out of his mouth as it neared my cheek. Before I could do anything, the tongue was sliced off, and someone was pushing me back.
"Don't just ignore me!" Inosuke shouted at the demon as he stood in front of me.
"Tch. I'm not interested in boring humans." He replied, clearly enraging Inosuke.
"BORING?! DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO?!" Inosuke screamed, attacking the demon.
The headless demon began attacking too, and both Tanjiro and I jumped out of the way. This is too much. We'll surely die if both these demons come at us at once.
"Tanjiro." I quietly stated, leaning towards the boy. "I'm going to lead the other demon away. You two take care of this one." I explained.
"Are you sure? That one seems stronger than the others." Tanjiro replied, concern lacing his voice.
"I'll be fine. Just take care of the demon controlling everyone." I stated before running off into the woods. I'm sure that the other demon would follow since he seemed so interested in me.
"Where do you think you're going?!" The demon laughed as he sprinted after me. I ran faster and deeper into the woods, wanting to separate myself from the others as much as possible.
The demon suddenly launched himself at me, racing towards my path. I quickly jumped out of the way, skidding to a stop. I felt as if I was far enough from the others. Just enough to give them space.
"Mmm..." The demon hummed in thought as he crept in circles around me, treating me as prey. "Blind..." He muttered. "But powerful..." He suddenly stopped. I could feel the dirt in front of me shift slightly, letting me know he was a couple feet in front of me.
"Say, girlie..." His tone was low, almost as if he was taunting me. He let out a chilling chuckle before suddenly vanishing. I tensed, not being able to sense the demon, panic rising to my chest.
"What's your name?"
His sudden voice slithered through the air, his face inches from mine. I gasped, shooting away from the demon, fear continuing to build deep inside me. I gripped my sword, focusing on his location as he seemed to disappear again.
"Not a talker, huh?" He whispered into my ear from behind me. I choked back a scream, jumping away from him.
"Ah, well. I guess that's good, because I am." The demon sighed, and I felt him step closer to me. "The name's Zankoku," he paused. "Nice to meet you." Just as those words left his mouth, I felt the woods around me shift.
I tensed, the strange vibrations surrounding the two of us. I furrowed my brow, not quite sure what he was doing.
"Oh, how cute!" He exclaimed, jumping up into the air. "You're trying to figure out what's going on!" He laughed maniacally as he prepared to slam me into the ground. I sprung out of the way as he crashed into the grass, creating a large crater in the earth.
The vibrating continued in the trees, and I backed away from them in confusion. I dodged another swing from the demon, raising my sword. I slashed at its neck, but it quickly avoided me, sending a kick my way instead. I narrowly dodged his leg, but he was too fast. Before I could recover, he punched me in the stomach, knocking me off my feet. I flew into a tree, wincing at the pain.
