THE NESBITT FAMILY finds it appropriate and endearing to treat me like an egg. They literally walk around eggshells in my presence.
Honestly even though the attention is great and all, I just want to be left alone. My family is great so before anyone concludes it is broken - as in I have an alcoholic dad and a neglectful mom - let me clarify that they are truly the best. If anything I do not deserve them. We are a family of five; I know that cliché.
My dad is a vet which explains why there are so many pets around my house. He found most of them that is the two cats and one dog on the streets. Apparently he felt his heart melt. The only pup we have is my favorite because we actually bought it, courtesy of yours truly. He is every single trait of a good father and husband. He is black American native to the one of the Caribbean Islands. The Bahamas to be precise. We spend some of our holidays there, in our beach house because dad does not want to forget his roots. I do not see why he even has to work when he owns half of a big Technology company but yeah he is industrious and all.
My mom is a workaholic, she is a real estate agent and spends most of her time obsessing on renovating our house to the latest designs. It already is up to date but with my mom it is never enough. She is a black American woman who is 5'5; I am catching up to her height soon but she denys it. She is a total bombshell with curves in all the right places. She inspires me, the way she juggles work and family time is amazing. She is from South Africa, and her family home is originally in Krugersdop but when we visit we usually stay in Durban because of the beach. My family loves the beach.
Since she is South African by birth she is always nagging me and my siblings to learn indigenous languages of Africa especially Xhosa so I am stuck with Xhosa lessons once a week. Something about "you need to know your mother language" and to my mom, mother language is her language not her husband's- my father. I see where I get my feminism now.
I have two siblings who are unfortunately older than me; Ava and Don.
Avalon is drop dead gorgeous and at just twenty three she is a top model. She is the epitome of perfect with the perfect body, perfect looks and perfect love life, thanks to Preston her boyfriend who is a doctor. There is no doubt that she is my mom's favorite although she denies it. I like to believe I am my dad's favorite. Don is no one's favorite, hehe. I could not care less if I was no one's favorite that would make me out of the spotlight all the damn time. My relationship with Ava isn't the best, maybe because there is a lingering feeling of envy mostly from my side but I love her because deep down she inspires me. To be better.
Don. Pain in the Arse. He is by far the most annoying person in my life. He is nosey; it is a family trait all of them are nosey and it is infuriating. Although he is all that, I am closest to him mainly because he genuinely understands me. I say we are close because he is the closest to my age, he is eighteen going on nineteen in about six months, but he swears it is because he is a cool brother. Not true. His definition of cool is listening to hip hop. As much as it makes me want to puke, he is good looking. Genes of beauty run in the family considering we are the products of two beautiful people.
Then there is me, the youngest and by far the wisest. Wisdom knows no age. Don is reckless always in trouble at home and at school. He is a menace to society and it pains me that I am associated with such. My parents have had enough trips to the principals office. This is my family and we are the Millers (got that). Scratch that, the Nesbitts.
You must think I am a brat for complaining when I have such great people for a family. It is the attention I hate. I hate how they always treat me like a kid especially after the "incident". Don got even more protective always sending glares to any guy that looks at me and he insists on watching me all day. Don is constantly blaming himself for what happened.
