Christmas, a time for family, a time for presents, a time for joy. But for Annabeth it had also been a time of disappointment.
She had made a plan for the day. She would go and meet her friends at Sally Jackson's apartment, they would watch movies and play games, but most importantly she would finally be able to take a break and relax with her boyfriend Percy Jackson.
Instead, she arrived at the apartment and was greeted by the news that her beloved boyfriend had been snatched away by his father, Poseidon, to go on a one day quest to retrieve "something of great value" blah blah blah. Fantastic.
The whole day she couldn't stop thinking about him. While playing board games she thought of how much of a sore loser he is. While watching a movie she thought of how much he'd enjoy it and noticed all the moments he would have laughed at. She pictured him with his arm around her, her head resting on his shoulder. While eating Christmas dinner she sulked. He could be here. He should be here. He deserves to be here.
The evening came, then the night. Her friends began to leave, one by one, until it was just her left. Sally understood she was upset and let her stay in Percy's room for the night.
As she lay in his bed that smelt of him, surrounded by things that belonged to him, the began to bury herself in thoughts. This was well and truly unfair. Not just for her but for Percy. He had had his Christmas snatched away from him just because some God told him so. She was angry. Angry for him and angry for herself. She was so angry that she cried, cried herself to sleep. The world may be cruel but the sun would rise in the morning.
She was awoken by the door to the room opening. She opened her eyes and saw a figure in the doorway. She glanced at the clock, 2am. The figure moved closer and she smiled, she grinned. Percy moved over to her and said "Hey wise girl, you missed me?"
After a few minutes, Percy had got himself ready enough to go to bed and he climbed beneath the covers. Annabeth moved over to him and reached out her arm and pulled it around him. His skin was still cold from the outside air. He moved himself closer and held her tight, like he never wanted to let go. He kissed her forehead and looked into her eyes. "You know, I hate that your stupid father managed to keep me away from you during Christmas."
"Beth, I am so sorry."
"Don't blame yourself at all. It's that stupid old sea man."
Percy quietly chuckled. "I'll make it up to you tomorrow, just you wait. But for now I suppose I'll just have to hold you all night as payback for the time we lost."
Annabeth smiled and allowed herself to be pulled into his arms, her head resting on his chest. She could hear his heart beating and feel the movement of his breathing. She practically melted at the closeness.
Sure, she had lost Christmas with him but maybe things aren't so bad. Especially as she was now drifting off in his arms. "Good night wise girl." He softly muttered as he pressed a kiss onto the top of her head."
"Good night seaweed brain." She replied, whispering into his chest, barely audible.
