Rising Among the Debris
the soil is scorched and bleak
horizon a mere charcoal hue
a shadow of a figure approaches
walking slowly towards the base
should i say the skeletal remains
ravaged steel, melted block
a woman covered in soot
shakes debris from her black lockswould you surrender?
"Death in the skies,
decorated by bloody clouds.
Finally humanity has reached the brink.
I stand alone, eaten by the sudden loneliness,
on top of a mountain of bodies,
crunching dried bones beneath my feet,
wishing,
praying,
is this the end indeed?"rummaging through remains
military surplus of goods
finding canteens filled with water
some protein bars, and matches
buried beneath the ground
ammo and guns
fatigues to cover your body
and shield you from the atmospherecould you survive?
"The rubble that sounds so loud
in the demolished quietness
in the silence,
of the ruins that once was.
Not a soul in sight,
all mortal life form vanished,
a disappearing act of grand proportions.
deserving of a round of applause."would you crumble in doubt?
restless this urge of suicide
with no conversation
no human touch, or interaction
just loneliness swelling inside
soon darkness will fall
must bundle up for the night
where at least in dreams
precious images bring warmthdo you have the will?
"Reminiscing on mankind,
in the darkness, my sanity snaps.
The nothingness of the situation,
causing a relapse,
Filling the gaps with your voice.
Don't leave my memories,
lest I drown in this isolation.
basking in the desolate annihilation
of an entire nation.
Your bones of which have turned to ash,
times that were,
are gone in a flash,
Trapped,
among humanity's scraps
time lapses to nothing."could you summon the strength?
nightmares filled with crying
loved ones vanish into oblivion
faint pieces of humanity
carried off by the wind
memories of living life
captured in a locket
the family that once was
hangs around her neck
choosing life over death
for the unborn child
that resides in her womb
for the light of hopeshe carries on..
she carries on.."Oh so bleak is a future,
with just one mortal body on a destroyed planet,
giving birth to innocence,
a fetus of hope.
A small thread that could help me to cope,
with the loss of everything,
an apocalyptic beginning,
A developing affection,
a vision for a new world.
It shall take one, among death and devastation,
famine and drought,
I will carry on."She will never give into doubt!
