"Pushing yourself to be the best is unsustainable.
Simply push yourself to be better than the day before."

It was at least 2 and a half weeks before I was strong enough to go back to school. The first week and a half were either me being unconscious or not aware of anything going on around me and being sick. Apparently, Father used the excuse of us being extremely sick and unable to attend school. And, fortunately, while we were out, either Matt, Cad, or Rett would bring my assignments home and Ethan, Rick, or Bri brought home Cor's work so we were able to do something while we were out. It was a lot of work, but I managed to get mine done fairly quickly. Corwin finished his a bit earlier but that's because he had less work, and no, I'm not making excuses. Corwin was better off than I was and was able to go back a couple of days ago after I was able to actually take care of myself.

Also luckily, the band practice was canceled because Sky and Cass had gotten sick, actually sick, not injury "sick" like us, so we weren't the ones who had to cancel this time. Ha! And both Corwin and I's employers were way too generous and still paid us even if we never went to work for the past two and a half weeks in my case, or two weeks in Corwin's. I think they had a suspicion that our Father wasn't telling the whole story.

So, Friday morning, four weeks after one of the top 7 worst beatings I've ever had, I was finally going back to school.

As I got ready, I looked in the mirror and grimaced at the still healing harsh scars on my back. Corwin and I managed to keep the marks on our backs from getting infected but I still got a high fever from blood loss and we both still got the trauma that our bodies were forced to endure.

"You okay there?" Corwin asked gently from my room. He's been staying there since that all happened because it was easier for us to stay together and treat the injuries as well as easier for him to watch me while I was sick. I shrugged as an answer and instantly regretted it as I winced at the pain that erupted across my back at that action.

'Note to self,' I thought. 'Don't do shoulder or back movements for the next little while, for the millionth time.'

"Alyxs, be careful!" Corwin scolded, a little mother-hen like. He's so protective.
