Perspective: Charlie Thorne2 minutes after Charlie Thorne and the Lost City
Year 2041
There was a flash of light.
Charlie Thorne woke up, confused. She wasn't at the base of the waterfall, and she wasn't in Egypt. She wasn't on a plane, and she wasn't in the airport. She seemed to be in a base of some sort. So Charlie sat up, and was immediately tossed to the ceiling. She gave a yelp of surprise, and banged back onto the ground. Charlie looked around and saw metal beams, floor, ceiling, then floor again as she somersaulted around this... what was it? MoonBase Alpha, declared a sign.
Moon base? She thought. Where was Dante? Where was Milana? Am I on the moon? That's not possible, I'm not wearing a spacesuit. This is like the future?
Charlie plopped down on the ground, which allowed her to get a better look at things. She was on a staircase, and on the top were compartments labeled Residence 2, Residence 3, Residence 4, and so on. There were some windows, and out of them she saw a beautiful beach in what she guessed was Hawaii. Why would such a bleak house be in Hawaii? She moved on to the next window and saw Paris. Oh, they must be some kind of high-tech screen. Charlie looked at them, and they all seemed to be screens. From New York to the Galapagos to some faraway galaxy, they all seemed to belong to someone who wanted to get outside but couldn't. She realized that the whole time she'd been walking, she barely used any energy. When she walked normally, she got flung sky-high. Charlie now hopped/ soft-walked to what looked like a dining hall from the future, with a big table and squat inflatable-looking cubes. Then she noticed a tiny window which appeared to be a legitimate one. She soft-walked up to it.
To Charlie's astonishment, she saw craters and gray dust. A million stars shone overhead.
It must have been a screen. It has to be.
But it wasn't.
She looked around in the window more. It was definitely a real window.
Charlie poked and pinched herself several times, but she didn't seem to be asleep. She figured it was a very real dream.
But as she explored more and more, she began to think this was more than just a hallucination.
Am I on the moon?
