Dane

All mom has been doing is sitting in the corner of the living room saying the same thing over and over again, "We have to leave. I have to find my daughter. We have to leave. I have to find my daughter."

She looks like a deer in headlights. She won't eat. She won't talk to me. She won't move She won't sleep. She looks horrible, like she belongs in a mental hospital. She's got bags under her eyes and her hair is a complete mess which isn't like her because she always tries to look her best.

"Mom! Listen to me! You can't just sit there and expect Heaven to just reappear! We have to go find her! Get up! Come on!"

I was pulling on her arm and yelling at her to try and snap her out of whatever kind of dream she was in but it didn't matter what I did, she wouldn't listen to me.

I suppose I'm on my own on this one. I picked mom up and carried her to her room. I laid her on her bed and covered her up, hoping she would go to sleep and forget about this for a while.

She was still mumbling to herself. I knew she wasn't going to hear anything I was about to say but I still said it.

"I'm going to call the police and I'm going to bring heaven back. I love you."

I walked out the front door and locked it behind me. With shaky hands, I grabbed my phone and dialed 911.

A woman answered the call.

"911 what's your emergency?"

"Um yes hi. My sister is missing. I think she's been kidnapped." I said with a shaky voice and tears in my eyes.

"What's your address?"

"1642 palm avenue."

"I'll have police at the address you've given me very soon."

"Thank you. Please hurry."

I hung up the phone and stared at the ground for a minute trying to wrap my head around everything until I heard sirens bringing me out of my daze. I must have been lost in my thoughts for a while because when I came to, police were in front of my house. I stopped pacing the porch and looked at my phone. Four minutes and they're already here.

As soon as the police car pulled up our long driveway I sprinted towards the car. Was it humanly possible to run as fast as I was?

There was a man and a woman in the car. The woman's name tag said Durnell and the mans name tag said Sphick. They got out and tried to calm me down so they could talk to me about what was going on. I was still breathing hard when they started asking questions.

"Sir, what's your name?"

"My name - is Dane - Logan and my sister - Heaven Logan - is missing." I said trying to breath with what little air my lungs were supplying me with.

After a couple minutes I could finally breathe normally and talk to the police.

"Follow me. I'll take you to her bedroom." I lead them into our house and upstairs to Heaven's room.

"This is her room and that's the window that was open when I came in this morning to wake her up for breakfast. She never leaves her window open, let alone unlocked. She's a very cautious person and double checks all of the doors and windows in the house to make sure they're locked before she goes to bed. It's not like her to just up and leave through her window in the middle of the night."

Officer Durnell walked over to the window and studied it very closely.

"Come look at this Sphick."

Sphick then called me over and pointed at the crowbar marks on each side of the wood to the window.

"Look here son. I don't think your sister would use a crowbar to break out of her own window, do you?"

"No. I don't even think we own a crowbar."

Durnell noticed a small hair in between a crack in the wood. When she noticed the hair she immediately pulled out her phone and called detectives to get to the house as fast as possible.
