I sat underneath a large tree. The leaves swayed back and fourth in the wind. The heat was unbearable. Even with the wind the air is humid and hot. My name is Jessica. I've been surviving in this outbreak for 7 months. By outbreak I mean zombie apocalypse. So what happened? I still have to find out. Family? Well.

It was a Sunday morning. I walked downstairs and my entire family was infected. My brother and parents were growling. Their eyes faded from white to grey. They smelt awful. They tried to kill me. That is when I found out that they were lurkers. My family and I created the word while watching the news and hearing about the zombies for the first time. They seemed like they just lurked around without any purpose except for one. To kill innocent humans.

I closed my eyes. Which wasn't a great idea because of the lurkers roaming around.

"Phil don't do it!" Yelled Connor.

The winter air was crisp and cool that afternoon.

I giggled.

"If you get your tung stuck to that pole I'm not going to be the one to take it off!" Connor exclaimed.

"Relax, I'll be fine. The kids in our school are gonna talk about this for months! I'm gonna be known as the kid who survived the impossible." Phil argued.

He took a step closer to the metal pole. Snowflakes fell upon his nose. He stuck out his tung and pressed it against the pole. He quickly pulled it off.

People crowded around us. They asked questions like "did it hurt." "For how long". And a number of other things.

I opened my eyes. I wish I could go back to a time where the world was simple and people could just live life. Connor and Phil were my best friends. Phil was the more excited daredevil type while Connor was calm but still super outgoing and daredevilish. Connor just thinks about the stupid things he wants to do before he does them. Phil just thinks of a stupid idea without considering the consequences.

I heard a girls voice.

"Tony why'd you waste the last bullet on some slow lurker. We could have killed it some other way." She said with an angry tone in her voice.

"Sorry." Said a boy's voice.

"Hey amanda. Is that a lurker sitting under a tree over there!?" Exclaimed another girls voice.

Are they talking about me? Do they think I'm a walker?
Ok I should get up.

I stood up.

"I couldn't help but over hear you guys talking. I'm no lurker. It's just me jessica." I told.

"I'm amanda. That idiot over there is Tony." She pointed at a boy with dirty blond hair with side bangs. He looked like the kind of guy who owned 200 comic books and a bunch of video games.

"that is katy" she looked at a girl with brown wavy hair. She was slender and stylish.

"I'm Cloe." Said a young girl with blond hair. If I had to guess I'd say she was around 10 years old.

"We could really use another member on our team if you'd like you could join us." Amanda suggested. Amanda seemed like the leader of the team.

"Sure, I have a guns and a knife and a bunch of first aid supplies."
