Kate

"Hi, it's Y/n. I'm busy right now. Leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can." Damn it, another voicemail.

"Hey, Y/nn! I might do a rain check for our hangout tonight! I've been sent for a mission and right now, I'm on my way to meet Widow and we'll chase one of the guys that can lead us to Kingpin! Sorry! Call me back as soon as you get this!" I ended the recording as I used my grappling hook arrow to get to the rooftop much quicker.

The moment I got there, Widow is already leaning by the edge with her mask on. I felt my phone ding and I checked it out to see who it was and I smiled a bit seeing my bestfriend's name on the screen.

From: Y/nn ❤️

It's all good Katie. I'm quite busy here in the office too so I can't call you back right away. Be careful on your mission, woman!

I just left it on read when Widow spoke up.

"You're 5 minutes late." She said through her mask. No one has really seen what she looked like. Well except for Nat and Clint but aside from them, no one and I mean NO ONE have seen her actual face underneath that mask. Not even me.

"Sorry, I tried to get here as fast as I could." I said, panting a little bit from all that running.

"Doesn't matter. Now what was the description given to you by Clint?" She turned her gaze down the busy streets of New York.

"Well, as far as the description goes, he's a bit of a blonde and quite tall. Same height as you. And loves wearing a leather jacket." I said as I read out loud the description I have on my phone. I turned my attention to Widow when she spoke up.

"I think Barton gave you the wrong description. Our guy is a redhead and he's down there. Inside that bar. Now I suggest you change into a more unsuspecting clothes and try to get him to talk."

"Right. Gotcha." I nodded and wore a suit on top of my costume.

"Be careful, archer. Don't wanna carry another injured teammate back to the compound if things go wrong and bloody. Don't worry. I'm gonna be right behind you if things go down." Widow said as she loaded her guns and her electrocuting bracelet. I don't know what the hell are those called. Don't judge me.

"I will." I gave her a small smile as I used the door on the rooftop to get down.

Y/n

As soon as I made sure Kate got inside the diner, I sighed and took off my mask.

"It's really hard to breathe in this mask." I mumbled to myself as I listen to Kate's conversation with our target inside.

"I mean how can you actually breathe properly in that mask of yours? You really need to tell Kate the truth so you don't have to act like you're fine beneath that mask of yours just so you can keep your identity a secret." I heard Clint say through our comms and I just rolled my eyes.

The thing is... Kate have no damn idea that the Widow and I are the same person. I don't wanna hide this from Kate but I had to. I've been doing it for years way before I met Kate 5 years ago. I'm the same age as her but I've been a part of the Avengers since I was in my teenage years. Nat was actually my sister, Yelena too. After the reversed blip happened, I was devastated when I found out Natasha sacrificed herself so they can get the Soul Stone. I was mad at Clint for that but I learned to accept it overtime knowing full well that my sister did it to save the universe. After that, the original Avengers went their separate ways. Hence the forming of the Young Avengers. The team where Kate and I are a part of.

The reason why I hide my true identity behind this mask is I've witnessed a lot of people losing loved ones when our enemies found out about their real identities. Clint was the only living person left who knew who Widow is behind this mask. I don't wanna lose Kate so when I found out she became a part of the Young Avengers, I was surprised. And got even more careful on hiding my identity.
