When Wanda had lost Pietro, she felt totally alone for the first time. She was consumed with anger, directing it at everything and everyone. He had been her lifeline all those years in the glass box with HYDRA - his upbeat personality balanced out her gloomy one.
But like it did with everything good in her life, the big bad world had taken him away.
Thee other Avengers tried their best to comfort the Sokovian, but no matter what they or Wanda did, the witchling couldn't heal the giant hole in her chest.
She shut everyone out, afraid to love someone, only to lose them again. But all of that changed when she met you.
It had been an accident - the first time she ran into you. She had been returning back from a mission debriefing with Fury; You had just finished one, yourself.
Normally, she would've been taking another path; normally, you would've too.
But that day, for whatever reason, she had decided to change things up, and by some inexplicable phenom, as did you, and with everything in the universe lined up like that, she had ran into you.
Laughing and smiling you had been conversing with some other agents, looking carefree and happy as always.
Almost immediately, Wanda saw right through your façade. She noticed the way your smiles never reached your eyes; the way your laughs seemed to be more breath than heart; the way your lips would slightly tighten whenever someone said something that annoyed you.
And the first time that she formally met you, she looked right into your eyes and understood: you were like her, broken, but still living.
She was intrigued by you, wanting to know more, but you seemed to avoid her. When she walked into a room, you always found an excuse to leave. Passing you in the hallways, you would suddenly "realize" that you were going the wrong way, and would make a sharp turn.
Not knowing what else to do, Wanda went to Fury.
Whether it was out of pity for the isolated Sokovian, or for some ulterior purpose of his own, Fury easily agreed to Wanda's request of having more missions with you.
At first, you were wary of her. You never tried charming her like you did with everyone else, almost like you knew that she could see right through your disguise. It annoyed her, the way you treated her differently, but Wanda was a lot of things, if not persistent. So, without falter, day in and day out, she continued to try and befriend you, even when you would retreat into an abyss of coldness and indifference, ignoring her most of the time. Slowly, but surely, though, her efforts came to fruit, and she began seeing your icy exterior melt away, little by little. And on occasions, she would see the rare smile here and there.
Real smiles. Not just the ones you gave everyone else.
On one particularly memorable mission to Venice, Italy, Steve had made the mistake of assigning you as the driver. Two hundred thousand dollars of damages later, you were brooding around the Tower with a broken leg. Home on break, Wanda decided to keep you company.
