It's Okay

You woke up to a bright, sunny sky, no signs of the yesterday's storm in sight. Groaning, you reluctantly got up from your bed.

You had cried yourself to sleep the night before -  the tears coming in phases. The sadness had been so overwhelming that you didn't think it would ever stop. In a way though, you were relieved by yesterday's breakdown. The numbness had finally succumbed to the sadness.

Looking outside the window, you saw the city bustling with life. Rubbing your eyes, a fleeting thought crossed your mind. Maybe now that you had finally accepted the breakup instead of ignoring it, you could start the journey towards healing. A buzz from your phone pulled you out of your thoughts. Reading the messages from Fury, you groaned louder. No one had bothered you yesterday since it was your day off, but an agent couldn't stay cooped up in their room forever. At SHIELD, there was always something to do.

You glanced at the clock before running to the bathroom to get ready.

Following a quick shower, you slipped into your SHIELD uniform.

You made your way to the dining area for the first time in weeks. It had been a while since you've eaten breakfast with the Avengers, opting to leave for work at least 2 hours before anyone woke up.

The reasons were layered. For one, you simply did not want to face Wanda nor did you want to have to watch Vision and her interact. You also wanted to avoid any questions about why you no longer sat near Wanda. It wasn't that your breakup was a secret, you just didn't want to deal with the awkwardness that was sure to ensue.

Entering the dining area, you were surprised by the deafening silence.

All eyes snapped to you as you entered.

Confused you glanced around.

You knew it had been a while since you had seen most of the team, but you didn't think that was anything unusual. As a SHIELD agent, you were often sent away on missions. You've easily gone weeks, even months, without speaking or seeing any of your teammates before.

Racking your mind, you tried to recall if there had been any major battles or conflicts lately that may explain the somber mood.

A soft cough from Natasha got your attention. "Good morning, (Y/n). Haven't seen you in a while." She greeted politely.

You sent her a wry smile. "Ah, yeah sorry...I've been just been busy laterly, working towards that new promotion, you know?" You attempted to lightly joke.

No one laughed.

Thankfully, Thor walked into the dining area at that moment.

The loud Norse god failed to pick up on the tense atmosphere, walking in without a care. Upon seeing you, he rushed towards you and pulled you into a tight hug, "(Y/n), my favorite Midgardian. Great to see you again!" He exclaimed with a hearty laugh as he lifted you off the ground. His sudden outburst seemed to snap everyone out of their daze. Slowly, but surely, the other Avengers began to talk among themselves, though there still seemed remain some tension in the air.

Glad that some semblance of normality had returned, you made yourself a bowl of cereal like usual and walked to the seat next to Natasha, the redhead giving you a comforting smile. As you ate your cereal, your brows furrowed in thought as you contemplated the earlier silence. Lost in thought, you completely missed your mouth with your spoon, spilling some milk onto the table.

Embarrassed at your clumsiness, you went to get a napkin to clean up the spill when you felt your stomach drop.

Out of the corner of your eyes, you saw Vision with an arm around Wanda. The majority of his lower arm was covered by the table, but it was obvious that he had an arm around Wanda's waist. The intimate gesture seemed practiced - familiar -  like the action had been done many times before.
