I stayed up that night thinking about the boy I've been running into lately and how his name is the prettiest name I've ever heard...Remington Leith. If it wasn't enough that he acted like a gentleman to me all night, the way he kissed my hand at the end was enough to send me to the heavens. A part of me wants to believe this is some kind of act, that he's just pretending to be interested in me for some selfish reason. But the way he looked so concerned and scared for my safety me me deny my common sense as I felt myself slowly falling for the mysterious boy who managed to save me twice and still have me fall for him.

The next day at work as I was taking customers' orders and sending them out, I wondered if I'd ever see Remington again. At the moment, my boss called out to me and ordered, "Amelie, over here! This one's asking for you personally so get to it." A customer asking for me to wait on them? That's doesn't happen often but it means a lot as I try to provide the best service. I walked over to where my boss directed me and I pulled out my notepad to get ready to take their order, "Good morning and welcome, how can I help you today?" Their voice startled me as they suggested, "That depends, what's your special for today?" I looked up to see it was Remington who was sitting in the booth and had requested me to wait on him.

I felt myself blushing as his smirk continued to make my heart skip a beat. "Um, well...", I felt like a mess trying to stay composed but failing, "We can offer you the fruit salad...or the sausage links with hashbrowns...any of those interest you?" He pondered to himself and then stated, "I have a better idea for a special treat. How about I take you out tonight after your shift's over?"

It took me a moment to understand what he just asked me, but as much as he seemed serious, I couldn't take him seriously. I giggled and said, "Very funny, Remington. I'll come back in a while when you're ready to order." I turned away and headed to the back where employees take breaks and I just needed a few minutes to recompose myself as I leaned my back against the wall after my senses were out of control. The last thing I was expecting was for Remington to appear in front of me and trap me within his presence with his hands on the wall and near both sides of my head.

His gaze on me was almost intimidating and I wondered if I said something to make him upset. "Do you really think I was joking?", he asked me, confusing me and making me nervous as he leaned closer to my face, "What makes you think I wouldn't be serious about taking you out on a date?" I understood then and felt bad about the way I treated his proposal. Ashamed, I hung my head and told him, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to act that way. It's just that...no one has asked me out in so long and...I wasn't sure if I was worthy for something like that anyway."

I glanced up a little to see his expression had softened a bit and he looked sad for me. He removed his hands from the wall and gently lifted my head to look into my eyes and tell me, "How is it possible you don't have guys lining up for you, Amelie? You're so stunning and gorgeous, any guy should be considered lucky to have you in their arms." His words were making my face more red than I needed, and I just told him, "I guess no one else noticed or they didn't want to. You just happen to be the first."

He removed his hand from my chin and scratched the back of his neck as he asked me again, "So, are you really free tonight? Or some other night you can spend with me?" I wanted to believe he wanted to spend time with me because I did too. But my scared heart that's been broken before wasn't sure if I should take the risk. Plagued by my insecurity, I asked him while looking away, "Why do you want to go out with me? I'm just a plain ol' waitress who's got nothing going on while you've got this town crazy about you already and I'm sure there are prettier girls for you to spend time with..."

He placed his hand on my cheek and turned my head to look at him once more while also holding me close to him with his other hand on my hip. With a stern look, he told me, "I'm not here to spend time with just anybody, in fact, I wasn't going to spend time with anyone at all. But after meeting you and being fascinated by you and your undeniable beauty, I can't see myself wanting to see anyone else who isn't you. I'm just asking for a chance, Amelie, I know you want to give me one, too, but I promise I won't let you believe you've wasted it. Tonight?"

I've never seen such desperation in a boy's eyes like his, and my heart was beating so fast, I knew it was beating for him. Taking a leap of faith, I nodded and confirmed, "Tomorrow night. My shift is over at 8:00, you can come pick me up then." His grin appeared and it made me smile in return as he took my hands in his and told me, "I'm looking forward to it, sweetness. I promise you won't be disappointed." He then planted kisses on both my hands and making me blush once more.

He exited the employee's space first before I began to head out where I went back to work yet Remington was already gone. I smiled at unexpected time just thinking that after my shift is over tomorrow, I'll see Remington again and he'll take me on a date. For the first time in so long, I was actually counting down the hours until I was done with work.
