As the car made its way to Vanessa's home, she let out a deep sigh as she watched the raindrops trickle down the window, thinking about all the things that could happen to her as a result of her mother finding about her unfortunate circumstances.
The taxi driver adjusted his mirror slightly and saw the sad expression on Vanessa's face
"What's got you down? You don't look too happy" he commented, paying attention to the road as he spoke.
Vanessa thought about wether or not she should tell the taxi driver what had happened, it only took her a minute to make up her mind.
"I got fired from my job..and I don't know how I'm going to tell my mum.." she sighed sadly, starting to draw a little smiley face on the window where her breath had left a foggy patch.
"Ah, I see" the driver said "honestly kid, the best advice I can give is you is don't give up. Keep trying, you'll find a job for you someday" he smiled a little as he started coming up to the designated address
Vanessa smiled a little "that's...really good advice, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks" she said relieved.
"Don't mention it, we're almost to your address by the way" he said, noticing how close they were on his gps
"How much is this going to cost me?" Vanessa asked so she could get the amount of money out ready, so she wasn't scrambling through her purse for change at the end of the trip.
"It'll cost you about $6" he said simply as he started to park the car outside of Vanessa's house
She nodded and pulled out a $5 and a $1 bill. As the car pulled to a complete stop she handed the money to the driver "thanks again for the advice"
The driver nodded and smiled, putting the money in a cash box underneath the passenger seat.
Vanessa slowly climbed out of the car, stepping onto the pavement and shivering as the cold air hit her. She closed the car door before wrapping her jacket closer around herself as an attempt to keep warm. She turned to the front gate of her house and placed her hand on the cold metal, pushing it forward as it opened with a loud creak
"Mum really needs to get that get fixed" Vanessa mumbled to herself as she walked up the path to her door, her shoes making clacking noises on the cold concrete. She reached out and grabbed the door handle, twisting it and opening the door, walking inside and embracing the warmth that quickly hit her as she shut the door behind her
"I'm home!" She called out, not sure exactly where her mother would be at this time
"I'm in the kitchen Vanessa!" The older woman called back, The blonde woman smiled as she walked down the hallway towards the kitchen, as she walked in her mum immediately came up and hugged her
"How was work sweetheart?" She asked smiling, unaware of the shocking news Vanessa was about to lay on her
"Well...I got fired..." she sighed, she felt her mum let go of her and heard her step back
"Vanessa, I told you! This is because you kept waking up late!" She scolded angrily
"I know mum I know" She rubbed her arm, looking down at the floor "but in all honesty, I do have a better job in mind..."
"Oh no. No no no. You are not working for that shady franchise!" Her mum immediately knew what she was getting at and was against it instantly.
"But mum, the pay is good, I can sleep in and not be late and you'll get the house to yourself" she tried very desperately to convince her mum "and plus, the new location opened up a few weeks ago, it seems like a good place to work"
