Volume 1: Chapter 8 - Classified

The student council president? I'm getting ordered around for something needlessly again?

I noticed my classmates had really unnerved expressions, I imagine getting called over by the student council president himself is a big deal around here. Thing is, I don't know whether it's a good or bad thing. I had never foreseen the fact that I would get called over to the student council of all places.

Suzune, like many others, was surprised to hear these words. Out of everyone, she was probably the most bewildered, it may have had something to do with the fact that the student council president is her own brother. I myself wasn't doing all that well in keeping a straight face either. That being said, I remained calm and composed enough to ask this--

"Am I in trouble?" I said without turning to face the purple-haired girl, still paying attention to my history notes.

"I can assure you that is not the case. President Manabu has specifically asked for you out of pure curiosity." She told me in a serious tone. Suzune, in an instant, rose up out of her seat. The sound of the seat sliding back startled some of the people sitting near her.

"Why him specifically?" I can tell that her tone was much colder than it usually was.

"That is something that I've been wondering as well..." She honestly told her, I swear I could hear a 'tch' sound coming from Suzune as she sat back down in her seat. I could sense her frustration from here, but what is she frustrated about exactly?

I finally turned my gaze toward the girl, she had brown eyes and purple hair. I could've sword I've seen her before with the third years. It's hard to not recognize a hairstyle such as hers.

"Am I obligated to go?" Truthfully, I had other plans in mind for today and would've liked to avoid this hassle if at all possible.

"No. And you will not be punished either. However, I think you may be intrigued to hear that my president has taken an interest in your skills and holds your abilities in high regard. This must be quite true if he wants to meet you personally, he has never taken an interest in a student like this before."

That was indeed intriguing to hear. But my skills and abilities? Which ones specifically? The more open ones or the classified ones? Either way, the fact that such a figure noticed me is beyond flattering. At the same time, it worried me.

"So what's this about exactly? Is he gonna try and make me go to another class or something?" I had meant that maybe this student council president has thought the school evaluated me incorrectly and had wanted me in a higher class, such as class B or perhaps A. There are a couple of flaws with that assumption though.

The first one was whether he even had that kind of authority. Sure, he may have had some control over the school, but was it really possible for him to make such a big change?

The second one was that someone wouldn't normally care. If anything it's the school's responsibility to see whether someone was placed correctly. And this girl did mention that I was one of the first students that Manabu had noticed in such a way, which would contradict this theory since people like Suzune and Rokosuke are in with the class D defectives when they could easily be in a higher class. Surely Manabu would also call over them?

I noticed a slight gasp from Suzune when I mentioned switching classes, I could tell she was worried about that. If I had switched classes, she'd lose an important asset. I may not be an ally, but I do hold a lot of potential value for her, something she doesn't want to lose.

"All details will be given if you speak to Manabu directly. Well?" She patiently waited for my answer, and I thought about it. I really wanted to reject, but the novelty is killing me. Plus it would be a bit rude to deny the request, if all he wants is to simply talk, then I think I'll oblige his request.
