Aiko had set an alarm last night for earlier than usual so that she could decide if she was going to class or not. She rolled out of bed, her face feeling puffy, and walked to the bathroom to check the damage. Surprisingly, it wasn't obvious that Atoma had been crying. This could easily be hidden by a little makeup and no one would ever know. After getting ready and treating herself to a nice breakfast, Aiko felt ready to seize the day and left on time for her class. She had already emailed the substitute teacher that had covered her combat class last week to tell her that she would be back today. The students met her with smiles and a warm welcome, all except for Katsuki Bakugo. He glared at her suspiciously but didn't say anything. Aiko told the class to go change into their exercise clothes so that they could move freely and get a little dirty if they had to. The school uniforms were very nice and Aiko made sure that the students would have something to change into when she created her class. The substitute teacher wasn't very hands-on and after two class periods of watching combat videos, the students were ready for some real action. When all of the students came out of the changing rooms and stood around Aiko in a big circle, she started the lesson. She wanted to focus on self-defense for this class and asked for a volunteer. In a gesture that shocked no one, Ida raised his hand and offered to help.
"Alright everyone, pay attention. Ida here is going to be the villain in this scenario and we are going to show you how to escape from some holds today. If Ida were to grab my shoulders," she paused to position Ida's hands on either side of her head, "I would swing my arms up and over his and jab them into the pits of his elbows, pushing down with all my might. This will cause his arms to bend and involuntarily loosen their grip on me, giving me time to perform my next move." She demonstrated this slowly on Ida's arms multiple times to ensure that every student saw it. "Your next move after removing an attacker's arms from your body should be something that allows you to get away quickly. Go for the groin, the feet, or the stomach with power so that the person attacking you will be doubled over in pain or effectively slowed down so you have time to run." Aiko showed a slowed-down version of what stomping on Ida's foot would look like before backing up and leveling a stare at each of her students. "Your goal today is not to hurt each other. I want you all to put enough force behind your movements to work on your muscle memory but if I see anyone being too rough, they will answer for it." She pointed at a whiteboard on wheels that held the pairings for today's exercise. It was mostly random except for some changes that Aiko had to make to account for differences in height. Mineta had to be paired with Tsuyu Asui, who was closest to him in stature, but the matchup wasn't perfect and Aiko worried about Mineta's perverted nature. She would have liked to pair him with another male student but even if he was matched with the next shortest boy, he wouldn't be able to reach the arms of his attacker. Aiko would have to teach the shorter students how to use their height to their advantage when fighting another time. One student, who Aiko recognized as Toru Hagakure because she was invisible, brought her concerns forward.
"Atoma, I am worried about how my quirk will impact my performance in this class. This is supposed to be quirkless combat but my quirk isn't something I can turn off." Aiko could hear the worry in Hagakure's voice and her face softened.
"I am not going to let that impact your grade- it can't be helped. Even if your clothes weren't visible, the majority of the exercises in this class would make your presence known to the other students. It's going to be a lot of close combat and reflex work so your quirk won't interfere with that. Why don't you go join Aoyama to get ready for your match?" Hagakure raised a gloved hand to give Aiko a thumbs up and jogged over to her flamboyant partner, who grinned at her. Aiko decided to have three teams demonstrate what they had learned at once so that they would have sufficient time to practice and be given pointers. Many of the students didn't know the first thing about fighting without their quirks so it would be slow progress. In the first group stood Asui and Mineta, Shoji and Sato, and Koda and Ida. The students all wore looks of determination, ready to prove themselves and actually do something. The kids were restless after only being allowed to watch videos for the first two classes. On Atoma's mark, the students began to repeat the same movement on each other, trying to get it right. "Shoji, you are moving without confidence. Get in there! Show that villain that you aren't going to let him grab you and get away with it!" Shoji nodded firmly and repeated the action with renewed vigor. Sato's arms were forced to bend and Shoji delivered a blow to his stomach, turning to run away. The punch wasn't very forceful on Aiko's request but Sato doubled over anyway, eventually looking back up to smile at Shoji. Aiko then turned her attention to Asui and Mineta. Asui was continuously breaking Mineta's hold and punching him, the small student not even putting up a fight. He was drooling slightly and staring up at her hungrily. "Mineta, go run laps!", Aiko shouted angrily. She knew she was right to doubt his ability to do this without being gross. Mineta broke off from the group, running around the stadium with a sly grin. By the end of the first round, all of the students in the group were using the technique properly and confidently. Aiko didn't see Aizawa slip into one of the chairs in the stadium, watching her call for the next group to come in the circle. He was still in pain from the night before and it wasn't because she had hit him. Aizawa had no idea what he did to make her run away. He had tossed and turned all night because of it, hearing Aiko cry herself to sleep. It wasn't like he got good sleep anyway. Watching Aiko teach with tired eyes, Aizawa soundlessly adjusted in his seat, planning on waiting until her class was over to try and talk about it. He still wanted her of course, but he felt conflicted and guilty. Aiko might not have seen Aizawa arrive with her eyes, but she felt it. She could feel his sadness and guilt and her own mind started to become plagued by it. She hadn't explained why she had left so he was assuming the worst. Aiko pushed her quirk further while watching the students, feeling that his emotions were complicated. He felt happy when he saw her improve the students' forms and she could feel his pride soar when Bakugo was able to liberate himself from Kirishima's grasp without hurting him. Aiko walked up to Uraraka and Jiro, needing to correct Uraraka's stance. "Separate your feet to give yourself more stability. When your feet are close together, it is easier to push you over." Aiko demonstrated what she meant, beckoning Uraraka to push her. Once the point was made, Uraraka tried again and was a much more formidable opponent. Jiro wasn't going to win so easily against real villains and Aiko wanted it to be a more even match. Midoriya and Kaminari got the hang of it pretty quickly so when Uraraka was confident in her abilities, Aiko dismissed the second group and called for the next three teams. Because it was three pairs at a time, one team would be left to practice in the circle alone. Aiko thought that Tokoyami and Ashido would be the most comfortable being that solitary group so she requested that Hagakure and Aoyama, Yaoyorozu and Ojiro, and Todoroki and Sero come into the circle next.
