Dolores yanks on my arm excitedly as she drags me into her lovely home. She told me they called their house "Casita" and that it was.. alive? I giggled nervously, but looked at me, with such seriousness. I changed my demeanor instantly seeing her look at me that way.
She smiled when her family appeared from these glowing doors. I noticed the doors were carved with the person that came out of the door. I looked at every Madrigal, and one of them stood out to me. She was wearing a pretty lavender dress, and she looked effortlessly perfect. Her hair was long and silky, and the door behind showed her, being surrounded by plants. I thought of her possible gifts, but obviously, there's too much to assume which gift she has.
Dolores greets her abuela, and her abuela looks towards me, smiling happily. "Dolores, is this your new friend you were talking about last night?" her abuela asks. Dolores, looking quite flustered, nodded a small 'yes'. Abuela asks me for my name, and I tell her. She giggles a bit, and mumbles a short, "A lovely name, for a lovely girl" before walking off.
"Jeiji! Oh, you lovely girl! It's so nice to see you again, where's your mother?" My tia Pepa asked. I motioned her towards my mom who's talking with Abuela.
Tia Pepa waves and walks excitedly towards my mom, calling her name. Before I walked off with Dolores, I saw three girls, one looking very muscular, the other wearing cute green glasses.. and then the other girl I saw earlier.
"Oh! Luisa, Mirabel, Isa!" Dolores calls, catching the girls' attention. They wave shortly, before coming our way. I watched as they came closer, noticing how their names were quite familiar.
"Hey-y-y Dolores!" The tallest one calls, engulfing the smaller girl into a tight hug. Dolores squeaked before getting plopped down. Catching her breath, she introduced me.
"Well.. Guys, meet Jeiji! She's new to town, and she's pretty cool!" Dolores exclaimed. The girl I was admiring earlier came towards me, walking around me as if I was some alien.
"Your pink hair is quite.. vibrant." She says, a pretty smile complimenting her gorgeous features. "I'm Isabela, Isa for short, nice to meet you." extending her arm out for me to shake. I take it hesitantly, while she shakes it gently.
"Hi! I'm Mirabel! You look stunning today, where'd you get that dress? Oh my gosh, is your hair naturally pink? It looks so-" Before she could finish, Isabela was giggling, ruffling up her hair in order for her to calm down her long ramble.
"Well, hey there stranger, I'm Luisa!" The muscular one greets, flashing me a charming smile. I smile back, mumbling a soft 'nice to meet you'. Dolores gets dragged away from me, and I'm left by myself.
I look around for my little brother and I see him with Camilo. They're playing with a bunch of animals Antonio brought.
I watch them for a bit, not even noticing Isabela's presence. "Boo!" She whispers. I jump in surprise, turning to look at whoever scared me.
"Isabela!" I yelp, clenching my chest, "You scared me to death."
"My bad, hermosa." She says, giggling a bit. I admire her smile for a bit, and she notices. "Take a picture, it'll last longer." she smirks. I roll my eyes playfully, nudging her gently. She laughs and drags me away to the table where both our families were gathered at.
"There you are! I was just about to send Camilo after you two." Abuela says, Camilo looking at her with shock.
"Me?! You have a plan against me, I know it!" Camilo says, pouting at Octave.
"Just admit you're lazy, Cami." Octo says, ruffling his curly hair.
"Abuela! You turned Octo against me, too?!" Camilo gasps dramatically. Abuela rolls her eyes at her grandchild, while both families laugh at his antics.
The families drank, laughed, and talked the night away. Isabel, Luisa, Mirabel, and Dolores joked around, making fun of each other freely.
Dinner lasts longer than it should, so much longer that me, and all of the kids left the table.
Enjoying our time together, we decided to stare at the moon.
"You ever think about how the hell the moon got up there?" Camilo asks.
"I- Are you stupid or..-" Octo says, looking at Camilo with one eyebrow raised. He looks back at Octo with a exaggerated frown.
Luisa and Mirabel point at each shining star, thinking they could count every single one, but alas, realization hits them as they lost count at 20. Isa and I giggle at their silly antics.
"What do you think about having a gift?" I ask.
"It's a miracle I even have them, it's a miracle the Madrigals have them at all." Isa smiles. I admire her from my side, before our mother calls us to leave. We all huff dramatically, wanting to stay longer, but of course, it had to end somehow.
We bid the Madrigals goodbye, Octave waving specifically at Camilo, as to which Camilo did the same, I was waving at Isabela, and she stared in awe.
My father wrapped an arm around Octo, while mother wrapped hers around me. We chit-chatted about our night, and we all seemed pretty content. The walk home was in a comfortable silence, until my mom spoke up. "So, Mija what do you think about Isabela?" she asks, a smirk plastered across her face.
"Wh- I mean, uh- What about her?" I mutter, nervously.
"I saw the way you looked at her, my dear, are you interested in her?" she questioned. I shake my head.
"Why would I be 'in love' with someone I just met?" I answered, anxiously.
"Mija, ever heard of 'love at first sight'?" She grinning widely. I roll my eyes playfully before turning to face her.
"As much as I read books about it, I refuse to believe that." I replied. My mom just shook her head, seeing through my facade. My dad and Octo overheard, 'oo-ing' at me teasingly.
Entering our lovely home, we all got ready for bed and slept soundly.
