Katniss had taken Peeta to shelter was was trying her best to care for him; as best as she could in an arena with no medical supplies except for burn medicine. Though at the moment both of them were asleep, Alexis still sat patiently watching the screen. Her eyelids getting heavier and heavier by the moment. There was only a handful of tributes left, she didn't want anything to happen to them. "You need to sleep, Alexis." Haymitch spoke up from her right.
To her left she heard someone clear their throat, "Haymitch is right." Finnick nudged the girl, "Sleep, you'll feel better."
She shook her head, "No," She stated, "I can't miss anything."
"We will wake you if anything important happens." Haymitch responded, "Come on," he basically pulled her over to the couch in the corner of the room, laying her down - she instantly closed her eyes.
"Okay," She said drifting off, "But wake me if anything happens-" A yawn escaped her lips as sleep took her away.
She woke up in a small, circular patch of grass, surrounded and covered by a canopy of trees. It was an old hang out spot, just outside of District Twelve; though, only two people used it. The trees were thick of dark green leaves and the grass blooming with bright wildflowers. Butterflies floated around her, it felt like a huge weight had been taken off her shoulders. She wasn't in her Capitol attire, but a pair of jeans and a loose, dirty white button up shirt.
A snap behind her caught her attention causing her to scramble to her feet, "Who's there?" She called out, craning her neck to see. Her heart rate increased and her jaw fell slack as the boy who could of been her twin emerged from the woods. Dark hair, green eyes, tan skin from days of exploring the forest. "Dustin.." She breathed.
He scoffed, "Who else?" A laugh escaped his lips causing Alexis' heart to drop, a laugh that she hadn't heard in years. Tears welled in her eyes as she stared at him, the boy slowly stepped so he was in front of the girl. Her hand reached out, gently grazing his face before cupping his cheek with one hand. He was older now, sixteen - same as Alexis. "What are you doing?"
"Its you." She whispered, before pushing herself to her tippy toes and wrapped her arms around his neck giving the boy a tight hug.
His voice was muffled as he spoke, "Its me." His arms snaked around her waist pulling her closer to him. "Your best friend."
Hot tears fell down Alexis' cheeks, soaking into the boys shirt, "I've missed you so much." She sobbed softly, "I'm so sorry."
He shook his head, "It wasn't your fault, there was nothing you could of done." He chuckled to himself, "Besides I did the whole self sacrifice thing - you know? Like those movies the Capitol sometimes screens for the districts? The ones where the main character gives himself up for the greater good?" He tightened his hold on the girl, "I'm the main character."
A laugh escaped the girls lips, "Sure." She spoke, "But you're still gone..."
Reality set in.
"I've always been with you," Dustin responded, Alexis felt his head shift so he was looking in another direction, "Like him."
Alexis turned her head, leaning on a tree was the boy with auburn hair, "Alex?" She asked only for him to shrug his shoulders while looking over at the pair.
"Yeah, I convinced him to stop scaring you." Dustin spoke up, "In my personal opinion, i thought it was quite rude."
Alex gave a confused look, "She killed me." He said in an almost annoyed tone while pushing himself off the tree and over to the pair.
"Because you killed me." Dustin countered, "Anyways, aren't you beginning to see her appeal?" Dustin grinned while nudged Alexis, causing her to push him back.
