Teyvat High School.

This was a prestigious school, one where many students traveled from afar to apply. Of course, to be guaranteed a spot in this school, you had to have a majestic beast with you. If not, you were accepted if you were essentially smart in your academics. Your highest grades were above a B+. Your test scores were way above the average number. You'd also had to have great physical abilities.

Now this was easy for (Y/N), who had academic smarts and a beast with her. She needn't worry about her reputation at school either because she came of a wealthy family who had bought a sold several beasts for multiple generations. Unfortunately, she was a weak and frail girl. She was also very short tempered, so she had quiet some trouble making friends. Nonetheless, this didn't stop her from being able to protect herself. She hated those who tried to protect her and those who looked down at her.

And she especially hated the thought that a certain vermillion bird had to follow her the whole time at school.

"Look, can you just leave me alone while I'm at school?" In an angered tone, she glared at her beast who had his attention to the people outside of the moving car. He turned to face her and crossed his arms on his chest.

"I'm afraid I can do that, Lady (Y/N). Master Kiyozaki has given me orders not to leave your side." The girl frowned and clicked her tongue in frustration. She crossed her legs and look out her side of the window.

"I don't understand why he won't listen to me. I don't need you, Xiao. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself."

"Lady (Y/N), I understand that you might not want me. But I can assure you, I'll still be there no matter what happens." The words that came out of Xiao's mouth greatly infuriated (Y/N) even more. She scowled at him and rolled her eyes.

"We're here Lady (Y/N), Xiao." Their chauffeur, Kaeya informed them. Quickly, the female unbuckled her seatbelt and rushed out her car door. She slammed the door and rapidly stormed into the school, where everyone outside had her eyes on her.

Xiao, who was left in the car, scrambled to gather the forgotten bookbag she left and his own. But before he could open the door, his name was called by Kaeya.

"Under any means do not leave her out of your sight." His sapphire eyes met Xiao's amber eyes. The vermillion gave a cocky grin.

"You humans underestimate us beasts. Leave the job to me. I'll take care of her." And with that, he gathered all of the stuff and rushed out of the car. Kaeya was left alone and watched from the rear-view as Xiao ignored the girls that tried grabbing his attention.

He scoffed, then drove off.

"Lady (Y/N)!" Xiao saw the girl head into a classroom. He scurried over to her as he ignored the whispers from the students in the hallways. "Please wait!"

As he arrived at the doorframe, he noticed that every one had eyes on him. But he didn't care. He scanned the room with his amber eyes until he found (Y/N). She was found sitting at the very edge of the classroom where she looked out the window.

With his nerves gone, Xiao walked towards her. He sat down in the designated spot right next to his lady.

"Why are you here?" (Y/N) mumbled loud enough for him to hear. "I told you I don't need you."

"And I understand. But I was ordered to not let you out of my sight." He retorts.

"Ugh, I don't understand why you follow his orders when you're my bird." She glared at her bird who kept a straight face.

"My bird, she says." His heart couldn't help but skip a beat.

"Um, excuse me." The two turned to a purple haired girl with bright purple eyes. Besides her stood a timid and nervous beast, one who had visible red and black horns curved on the top of her head. "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation with your beast."

"I'm sorry, but you are?" The female had an unamused frown. But the purple haired payed no mind to it.

"I am Keqing. This is my beast, Ganyu." The timid girl bowed her head slightly and waved. "And you? What's your name?"

"(Y/N). This is my beast, Xiao." She pointed to him. Xiao bowed his head and took Keqing's hand. He planted a small kiss on her hand before retracting. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady Keqing."

Keqing couldn't help but widen her eyes. She placed an arm on her waist before releasing a puff a air from her mouth. Ganyu immediately turned away as her cheeks flushed red.

"Interesting. Would you mind if I have a few words with you, Xiao?" Xiao turned his attention to (Y/N) who was playing with an eraser on her desk. "As long as my Lady is fine with it, then I have no reason to decline."

Everyone's eyes went to (Y/N), who was still playing with her eraser. She gave quick glances at Keqing and Ganyu before landing her eyes on Xiao. She scoffed and turn her head to face the window.

"Sure, I don't care."

"I'm back Lady (Y/N)." He hoped for a smile that came from her, but her face showed no emotion at all.

"Cool." She bluntly said. This disappointed Xiao, but nonetheless, he kept a straight face on as he took his seat beside her. "What did you talk about with her?"

The adeptus lowered his head. "I'm afraid I cannot disclose that information, for Lady Keqing has requested that it's kept private. But I ask of you to please be friends with her."

"What?" She slammed the palm of her hand onto her desk, which caught the attention of most of her classmates, including Keqing. "I don't need to be her friend."

"I understand but-"

"No, you don't understand. How many times do I have to tell you that I do not need your help?!" Anger filled her eyes as she gritted her teeth. She shut her eyelids before exhaling loudly. "Do not talk to me until lunchtime."

The poor adeptus reached for (Y/N), but knew it would only anger her more. Defeated, he turned to Keqing who was shaking her head, discontented. She glanced at Ganyu, who only shrugged her shoulders and gave a small frown.

"Hmph. This girl seems interesting alright."
