THE CHANGE ( part - 2 )
Continuation -
Daniel , he didn't give much thought to it as to why the man was asking if he was ‘Daniel Park ’ , thinking that the man was enquiring him to make sure that he was Daniel and also to inform him of his mother's death .
As he was about to speak , he hesitated and came upon a thought and questioned himself if the man before him was really here to enquire Daniel or more else to harm him.
Adam who was seated next to Daniel waited patiently for him to answer but as he saw him hesitating to speak , he said,“ I will not hurt you . You can trust me.”
After hearing those words Daniel relaxed a bit , he inhaled a breath and spoke , “ Yes , I am Daniel park.” Adam was pleased to hear that the little kid in front of him was really the Daniel park he was searching for.
Adam was about to speak , when his gaze diverted to Daniel who was fumbling with his small fingers and sending him quick glances , as though he wanted to say something. He beat himself from speaking and looked at Daniel right in the eyes , he raised his hands in a manner that told Daniel to go ahead and ask whatever was in his mind.
Daniel understood the gesture and looked at Adam , unsure if he should speak whatever was in his mind according to the gesture Adam gave him , as though Adam could read his mind , he nodded , Daniel encouraged himself and finally decided to ask “ Mister, why were you asking me if I was Daniel park or not?”
Adam clasped his hands together and sighed when he heard the question , he started thinking if it will be wise to tell the child of the truth and whether he'll be able to keep up with it without having a break down .
Adam who was overwhelmed by the thought of either to tell Daniel or no — came to the conclusion that , if he did not tell the child of the truth now , he'll definitely have regretful dreams , questioning himself as to why he did not tell the truth that time when he had the opportunity . He sighed heavily again.
He said ( Adam ) “ Your mother was caught in a car accident and couldn't manage to escape death.” Adam waited for Daniels reaction to his words but, surprisingly he did not cry or seem broken as he expected , ‘ perhaps Daniel has already been informed of his mother's death by the nurses ’ thought Adam. But as he looked at Daniels eyes he saw sadness and regret in them , “ That is not all.” Adam stated , “ The accident that caused your mother's death was done by my secretary who was driving my car while drunk.”
Daniels head sprung up as soon as he heard the words of Adam . He looked like he was on the verge of tears, but held himself from crying. Adam felt pity and guilty for Daniels loss as he was still a child . “ Wheres your father child?” Adam enquired .
Daniel flinched slightly when Adam asked him of his father , “ My......... Father?”
The room went silent when neither of them spoke as Adam was waiting for an answer for the second time that day and Daniel — he couldn't find words to the query he was put into . ( This chapter has so many damn questions 😵)
“ Umm...........” Daniel stared at Adam and Adam stared back , “ I don't have a father mister.” Daniel was about to continue but Adam raised his hands to halt “ Does that mean there's only your mother and you?”
“ Yes, it's only me and my mother , I don't have any memory of meeting my father or have ever seen him.” said Daniel . Adam was stunned to hear that the child didn't even know his own father rather that he had never even seen him.
Adam went into deep thought . ‘ If he doesn't has his mother anymore nor does he knows his father , doesn't he has any relatives also?’ “ Then , tell me kid, don't you have any relatives your in contact with?”
“No ” said Daniel .
“Grandparents?” asked Adam .
“ I don't know anyone else other than my mother.” Daniels head drooped as he thought about his mother. The room went silent once more , but the next words of Adam made Daniel so shocked he thought his ears had heard wrong , “ P- Pardon?”
“ I said if you'll be my son.”
