Jack looked down at the little odd box in his hand.

What a load of trouble he caused because of it. The guardians lost their trust in him. Bunny's eggs were destroyed. And Rapunzel was missing.

Rapunzel. The Guardian of Dreams....or more like Sandy's apprentice. Every night, her and the the other dream giving guardian known as The Sandman would release their golden dream sand all over the land. Unlike Sandy, Rapunzel sang and her hair would glow bright, and apparently that gave all the children dreams.

The moment Jack met her he knew that she was like no other spirit he had ever known. They found that even though they were different as night and day, they could relate to each other in so many ways. They both carried the struggle of not being believed in by anyone or of not knowing anything of their past life.

They were both lonely souls.....but they were lonely souls together.

She always believed in him, and he let her down.

He tightened his grip around the golden box that held his memories and began to hold it over his head ready to throw it off the cliff. But no matter how hard he tried he couldn't do it.

He threw his arm back at his side in frustration. He looked back down at the gold in his hand, turning it over to see the small painting of a boy that resembled him with brown hair and brown eyes. Who was that boy? Would he ever know?
All he had to do was open the box and all the memories would flood back into him. But how could he? After all the destruction he caused? But if he'd never open it, he would never know.

He felt so torn. If Rapunzel was here she'd know what to do. But of course, he ruined that too.

"They never really believed in you."

Jack jumped at the voice behind him, then clenched his teeth in anger. Of course he recognized the owner. Pitch. The one that tempted him with his memories. The one that killed sandy, and destroyed Bunny's eggs. And, most likely, the one that took Rapunzel.

"I was just trying to show you that." The Boogeyman continued. "But I understand."

With that, Jack turned around and threw a wave of ice at him with his staff, but Pitch blocked it with a shield of black sand.

Jack ran towards him. "You don't understand anything!" He yelled, throwing another sheet of ice.

Pitch blocked the attack again. "No? I don't know what it's like to be cast out?" He shouted.

Pitch strikes back, putting Jack on the defense.

Their show of force escalated until they're shrouded in a blanket of snow, ice, and wind. As the wind and snow settle, Jack looked around stern and alert.

"To not be believed in. To long for a family." Pitch said rather pitifully.

Jack turns around to find Pitch with a pitiful expression to match the tone in his voice. Jack face softened as he began to listen, suddenly interested.

"All those years in the shadows I thought, nobody understands what this feels like." Pitch said with his head lowered.
He looked up at Jack. "But now I see I was wrong."

Jack lowered his staff all the way.

"We don't have to be alone, Jack." Pitch said. "I believe in you, and I know children will too."

Jack looks up at him, in awe of the idea. "In me?" he uttered.

"Yes!" Pitch said with excitement seeing that he was beginning to win him over. "Look at what we can do!"
