Pov. LinaA violent tugging in my chest, the unbending twitch in my hand, all these trigger his voice. But as much as I want to, my eyelids won't open. "I want to look at him!", I scream, but the voice exists merely in my head. Suddenly the warmth of his hand threatens to slip away from me, so I manage to squeeze a little. At least that's what I hope. "Lina? Can you hear me?" he breathes incredulously, gentle pressure applied to my right hand, which I try to move with all my willpower.
"Keep going! Don't stop!", a hysterical female voice is heard, just as instantly I lose contact with his hand.
The heart in my chest beats faster. "What's happening?!", I want to know, but no one hears me. "Reach for her hand. Talk to her!", again this woman I can't place. It's scaring me. "Where am I? Why am I here?", hundreds of questions shoot through my head, extinguished all at once like the light with the help of a switch.
All triggered by him grabbing my hand, stroking my shoulder. I recognize these touches among thousands and thousands. "How I want to tell you that I feel safe with you," I think to myself, feeling my heartbeat regulate again. "Did you say something? Lina? Please don't let this have been an imagination," I hear his voice. "Lando, how I wish I could," but my own voice is already starting to echo. "Repeat the first word, say anything," choppy, desperate, he talks at me. It feels like something inside me is tightening up. This is all way too much!
"Do you know who I am?" his voice is suddenly so soft, so pleasant, soothing. "I shouldn't have rushed you like this. But do you remember my names?", he wants to know, stroking his hand from my arm down to my hand, squeezing it lightly. "Of course I know your name, but I can't get a sound out!", it shoots through my head. All at once, I notice him running his hand through my hair. From the roots down to the tips. "Lando," "Lina. Please stay with me," and again he squeezes my hand. Didn't he hear me? "Lando," "Yes, I hear you, Lina, you hold on!" his words set off fireworks inside me. He hears me!
"I believe in you. I'll be there even if it's late. Even if it takes you all night, I won't leave your side," he whispers, goosebumps covering me. "Do you hear? I'll always stay by your side," he murmurs, stroking through my hair again.
As much as I'd like to, my eyelids are set to concrete, it's hard for me to stay with it. The sounds around me threaten to get quieter, I threaten to lose control again. It's like trying to fight falling asleep, but failing at it.
"Damn it, please. Lina I need you!", the desperation I get only on the edge, everything becomes heavy, pulling me down into a hole. Before I sink, I feel it getting cold. An unbelievable coldness envelops me. "Before I die, I would so much like to tell you that I love you," but again it remains an unspoken thought.
But just as quickly as the darkness enveloped me, I feel a warmth surrounding me. It's dark, everything feels light as a feather. "Did I die?", I ask myself, I have the feeling that I am moving in water, very gently I follow the waves, of whose origin I know nothing. "Lina, I would so like to know that you hear that I love you," his voice. "How can that be? I am no longer among the living," I want to know, but I will probably never get an answer. "I'd love to tell you too," I think to myself, the waves getting stronger.
Lightning flashes through me, coursing through my veins, triggered by a touch on the corner of my mouth. Suddenly everything is bright, confused voices can be heard. "Am I in heaven?", puzzled, I want to look around, but it doesn't work. "Lina!", again I hear my name, the familiar voice of Lando. "Why are you here too?", "What why am I here too?!", startled I want to turn, but it turns out not to be necessary. He looks down at me, his eyes fixed on mine. As if time stood still, I stare at him, paralyzed by what is happening.
"Why are you here? Why did you die?", I want to know from him, even though I can't even say why, why, why myself. "Slow down. Don't be in such a hurry, take your time. What are you talking about, I'm not dead," he looks at me with his head tilted, but I can't quite believe him. "Of course, you're totally talking the nonsense here," I try to explain to him, which he merely acknowledges with a smile.
"Lina, you're in London, in the hospital, you're alive," Lando says, pressing my upper body closer to him. It is his warmth that surrounded me. "Do you know what a fear I had just now? You could have gone back into a coma at any moment," he breathes, burying his nose in my hairline.
"I love you, too," I murmur, sinking against his body. "What are you saying?" his eyes widening in disbelief, I can imagine too well. "I heard you, every word," I explain to him, closing my lids again. "Are you tired?" he wants to know, to which I nod, barely noticeable. Every word I say is laced with effort that wears me down. "Mr. Norris, we would like to take care of Lina again, you can visit her tomorrow," again there is that woman's voice, which probably belongs to a nurse. "Can I stay with her until she's asleep?" he pleads, tightening his grip on my torso.
"If it's good for her, I can't deny you that request. But after that, please leave the room, she needs a lot of rest," and already I hear a door close. "After you fall asleep, I'll have to leave again.... But don't worry, tomorrow I'll be back," he whispers, pressing a kiss on the top of my head. To show him I've heard him, I give a barely audible murmur before slipping into the land of dreams accompanied by his steady breathing.
