  "I'm getting ready to go, I shouldn't be gone for too long." I announced while putting my shoes on. I needed some time to myself, away from Crystal, away from Tione—away from everything. I just wanted to be alone.

"And where are you going?" She questioned while approaching me. "Why can't I go?"

"Ion gotta explain myself to you. It doesn't matter. Why are you so worried about what I'm doing?" I asked. Crystal wasn't too pleased with my response.

"Excuse you? I have every right to know where you're going, now answer the fucking question. Where are you going?" She repeated. I grabbed the rest of my things and rushed to the door only to by stopped by Crystal. "Answer me!"

"Please just leave me alone Crystal, Ion got time to argue with you right now. We do this everyday." I replied. "Can I just have one day to myself?" Crystal was extremely overbearing. As a result, I hardly ever got to do things on my own. She treated me as if I were a child and I couldn't stand it. Why doesn't she just let me live my life?

"You're going to see yo lil friend again aren't you? What did I tell you bout hanging out with him?"

"But I'm not going to hang out with him, I'm only going on a walk. I don't wanna see him right now." I explained to the best of my abilities. "I can't be alone now? How come you always have a problem with everything I do?"

"I can't trust you, especially after what you did yesterday. You really had the nerve to let him come over after he put his hands on me? What the fuck?"

"I didn't, I already told you that. He came over on his own. I tried to make him go home but he just wouldn't listen to me. I didn't invite him over, I promise." I felt defenseless. No matter what I said, Crystal still wouldn't believe me. What makes her think I'm lying to her?

"I know you did, you can just tell me the truth."

"I didn't—"

"Yes the fuck you did, I know you did. Why else would he just show up to our house like that?" Crystal asked.

"You asking me like I know. I don't know why he came over here." I answered. "Even if I did, why do it matter? I should be allowed to have him over whether you like him or not."

"He can't come over no more, end of discussion. What he did was uncalled for." I rolled my eyes. "If I see him over here anymore, we gone have a problem." Crystal threatened. I grew tired of her telling me what to do.

"How you gone tell me what to do at my house? You don't pay no bills up in here. If you don't like him then you can leave." I blurted. "You don't run shit in here and you not gone keep telling me what to do. I'm a grown ass man!" I felt a sudden stinging sensation across my cheek. I hissed as I massaged it gently—she slapped me; that bitch really slapped me.

"Ion know what you thought this was but you not gonna be talking to me like that. That's what we not finna do." She spoke. "Ion care if you grown or not, he's not coming over." I let out a sigh of defeat.

"I'm done arguing with you. I'm not gone waste anymore time or energy on you." I attempted to walk out but before I could reach the door, she grabbed my arm.

"Ion give a fuck. I just want you to know that I'm being serious. The next time he come over here with that disrespectful shit I'm beating both y'all asses. Ion want you talking to him anymore either, ight?" I nodded my head in silence. Though it pained me to avoid him, I had no other choice. There was nothing else I could do.
