Here we go again!
*****************************
The instant we walked in the door I could smell the alcohol and it made my nose wrinkle from the fumes. Allie didn't seem to notice or maybe she just didn't care. She took off through the crowd and left me alone. The music was pounding in my chest because it was so loud. I watched after Allie as she weaved so that I could see where she was going. I felt someone's presence behind me right when I saw the last of her red hair.
"You know, when people usually go to parties, they don't stand right next to the door." I heard behind me almost right next to my ear
"Very funny, Jake." I said knowingly, "Shouldn't you be bothering some other poor girl? Maybe one that you know her name?"
"Oh but I know who you are, Katie Kebbel. Honestly, I'm surprised that you had the balls to even step out of Allie's car." He said slowly
I turned around trying my best to keep my game face on. I looked him straight in the eyes trying to figure out if he was threatening me or just trying to tease me. I went to talk when a red solo cup popped in front of my face. I turned to find Allie holding it with a huge smile in her face.
"No, someone has to drive us back home." I said pushing the cup back to her
"Honestly Katie, have you ever had fun in your life?" Allie asked
"Yeah, honestly." Jake said mimicking Allie's voice and high pitched tone
"Yes, I do but not when it comes to our lives." I said looking back and forth at them
"It's called a taxi, Katie. Now take the god damn cup before I find a funnel." Allie said
I thought about it a little more, looking between Allie's stern face and Jake's wiggling eyebrows. I looked at the weird orange colored mixture in the cup.
She did say all I had to do was hold it. I didn't have to drink it...
"Fine but don't give me anymore." I said grabbing the cup from her hand
Allie smiled at me wildly then raised her cup up. I looked back and forth from her cup to her face.
"What?" I finally said
"I believe she wants to make a toast." Jake piped up smiling
"Thank you, Jake." Allie said smiling with him
"Ugh. Fine. Make it quick." I said wanting to get this stuff over with so that I could find a corner to sulk in.
"To old friendships!" Allie yelled raising her glass higher
"And new ones too!" Jake yelled putting his cup up too
We both glared at him as he slowly retracted his cup to his side.
"What? I like new friendships..." He said drinking from his cup,
I nodded with a smile and bumped my cup up to her cup. Allie started drinking while I pretended to drink out of mine.
"I love this song!" Allie finally started screaming
I watched her disappear yet again. I shook my head and started my way after her through the sweaty drunk bodies when my arm was grabbed.
"So yes, I know you're a Kebbel." I heard Jake say, "I won't tell anyone. A friend of Allie is a friend of mine."
Before I had a chance to look back at him, he was gone. I put my focus back to finding Allie in this raging party full of high school students. My head was already starting to pound from the music. I'm honestly surprised that the cops haven't come yet. The neighbors must be pretty tolerant. I slid and pushed through the groups of people getting some nasty names thrown my way and a couple shoves back until I reached what looked like a living room.
