Chapter 29

"It all happened so fast..."

"Can you tell me what happened to your neck?" Parrish asks slowly from his spot in front of me with a notebook.

"-You don't know who it was, you never saw their face, okay? " Argent instructs me. He kneels down to my curled-up figure on the floor. "Nina!" He shakes me. "I know this is hard but you have to do it. We have to." His eyes falter for a minute. "Now, repeat it to me."

"One of them came up behind me. They put something sharp against my neck." I fidget with my fingers. "I don't know what it was... a knife maybe? But when-" I close my eyes tightly. "-'It' happened... he let me go, he got scared I guess. I don't know..."

"Anything as you can remember?" Parrish asks gently. I rake my brain. I don't think I could even tell him what really happened if I was allowed to. My brain is a mess of emotions. For the first time, the headache I have isn't caused by supernatural forces but rather by-

I open my eyes slowly. "I can't remember... it all happened so fast."

He closes his book and lifts his eyes to mine. "Thank you." His voice comes out softly.

"Can I go now?" My voice cracks.

He nods. "Nina." He says as I reach the door. " I'm sorry for your loss." I only manage a tight smile before turning around and walking out the doors.

I don't make eye contact with anyone in the room. I can't... I sit down on the bench, taking deep breaths.

Allison is dead...Allison...

It can't be... there's no way

It's Allison. Allison can't be dead

A warm hand is placed on top of my own. I don't even need to look at the face to know whose it is. I look up to his eyes. He doesn't say anything. He keeps his despondent gaze forward. His warm hand still in mine.

"Stiles and Kira said it was the Nemeton that kept it trapped," Scott says as he, Lydia, and I walk into the animal clinic

"Stiles and Kira said it was the Nemeton that kept it trapped," Scott says as he, Lydia, and I walk into the animal clinic.

"The problem is this isn't even a person you're fighting," Deaton informs us. "It just looks like one. It's a spirit that has taken the shape of a human."

"The shape of my best friend." Scott sighs.

"Someone caught it once." Lydia inputs. "Someone can do it again, right?"

"I don't know." Deaton shakes his head. "This thing was trapped a long time ago before the Nemeton was cut down. It doesn't have the same power anymore."

"Is there anything that does?" Scott asks.

"Possibly." He shrugs. "When the tree was whole, its wood was sometimes used to contain powerful objects."
