Unexpected Encounter

Chapter 4

Then suddenly I am pulled away from June and dragged out of the store. Of course I scream and slam around me to get loose. But it doesn't work! I do look up now and see that Max along with Charles have pulled me away from June.

"What's gotten into you!" shouts Max questioningly to me, as soon as he has set me down on a bench. Tears stream down my cheeks like waterfalls and I immediately get a feeling of regret. I was still telling myself not to kick up a fuss and in the end I did. How I hate myself!

"Guys, what happened here?" suddenly I hear someone else ask and I look up. I see all the other Formula One drivers coming running.

I feel someone come and sit next to me and put an arm around me, then the person pulls me into a hug. So many things are happening that I can't follow it anymore and I hear mega voices asking what is wrong with me. I ignore the questions and feel my anger slipping away from me. Was the anger because of June, when she just provoked me in the back? My head leans against Lando and I hear someone ask me something, crouching in front of me.

'Breathe in, breathe out,' I hear Lando say, trying to calm me down.

I do as he says and try to breathe in, then breathe out. Tears roll down my cheeks soundlessly and I still sob from time to time. The question the person in front of me asked has not entered my mind and I keep my eyes closed. I sniff the scent of Lando and wrap my arms around him. He's sweet! Lando apparently startles for a moment, but recovers and I feel him put a hand on my head. He strokes my head and I slowly settle down with him.

'Are you calm?" asks Lando after a while.

'Yes,' I answer his question. I don't sob anymore, but the tears still roll down my cheeks soundlessly.

'Why were you kicking that girl?" asks Max and immediately all the drivers look at me.

I swallow and look away.

'Look at me, please,' Max says and pushes my head towards him with his hand.

'I... I...,' I begin, but that makes our tears flow louder than they just did.

'Max, leave her be,' I hear Lando say in a Belgian accent. Surprised, I look at Lando and see him chuckle. He wants to say something, but closes his mouth again. Somewhere in the distance I hear an ambulance approaching and immediately I look around me. Oh no, would someone have called the ambulance and the police?

"What is it Roxanne?" asks Lando sweetly.

I don't respond and then see an ambulance arrive in the parking lot, and paramedics jump out. For a moment I think no police are coming, but then I hear a police siren approaching. I swallow anxiously. "Why did I have to kick her so bad?"

"Max, I kicked her because she challenged me and I was extremely angry with her. She was my boss and had somehow fired me because I had been ugly to her boyfriend who was messing with the earpiece," I explain to him and his eyes get big.

'What is she saying?" one of the drivers asks.

Then suddenly I see a police car pull into the parking lot and I almost crawl into Lando. My breathing quickens and I look scared out of my eyes. No one notices and I stare at the police car. Two cops get out, a male cop and a female cop. They look around and then walk towards the store where I had just been working. They stop in front of the store and I see how the paramedics carry June outside. Now I see how violently she is hurt. "What a fool I am! A failure who kills her friends!" shoots through my head. I start breathing faster and I feel Lando loosen his arms around me a little.

"Are you okay?" asks Lando to me with concern.

'No,' I say shortly and then see the police officers turning towards me. Next to them I see Djayden and Ferry standing, pointing at me. I'm breathing so fast now, I even start to see a little blurry. Everything around me starts to spin and then suddenly I realize I'm hyperventilating. I begin to see little black spots, which as I blink get a little bigger and bigger. My hearing becomes impaired and I see the police officers coming towards me. This causes me to panic and breathe even faster, that I almost choke on my breath. I feel Lando push me off of him, but I immediately fall over when he doesn't hold me. My head starts to feel a little light, but it gets harder and harder to keep my head up. Then I fall over against Lando and now see almost only black. My lips move, but I can't hear what I'm saying. All the sound around me is gone and I feel Lando laying me down. Then everything turns black before my eyes and I lose my awareness....
