It was early in the morning in the dormitories when alarms went off all down the halls. Daniel woke up to see Eyri getting out of the shower and patting his hair dry with a towel around his waist.

"We only have one bathroom to share so I thought I'd let you have time to get ready..." He went to the dresser and paused, " We'll I'm not changing while your in here."

Daniel nodded once and went into the bathroom to take a shower. Afterwards, The two, wearing completely different attire as usual, walked side by side with a piece of paper trying to find their first class. Eventually a girl walked up to them excitedly, "Hello Prince Daniel, Eryi, I'll be your guide for today. Now I think Headmistress Novak said your first class was draconic studies. That's right this way....oh! I'm Emily. "

"Nice to meet you Emily." Daniel smiled, Eyri nodded his head to her and they were off.

Emily left them when they entered the class to go to her own and the two took their seats. Unfortunately, the only ones left didn't have two side by side so Daniel sat a row in front of Eryi.

A man came in, looking quite stern and the class went silent, "Hello again, Students. As we were talking about yesterday, a dragon's weakest points. Who can tell me the main four?"

A student raised their hand and he pointed to them. They immediately talked to list of what he asked for, "Horns, Wings, Tail, and elemental opposite."

"Correct... and who can tell me the elemental opposites."

A set of students raised their hands and he pointed to one, "Fire and Ice, Earth and Air, Light and Dark. "

"Good. Now, I'd like to mention we have two new students today, Prince Daniel of Elyndia, and his Companion Eryi. Eyri happens to be a dragon so I'd like him to come up front."

Everyone looked back at the only person in class with horns and reptilian eyes. He took a deep breathe and got up, going up to the front, "Yes sir?"

"I'd like to demonstrate some of the weakness we just mentioned, is that alright?"

"I'd rather not-"

"I only want you to null a fire I create. Is that alright? I assume you've used your ice before."

"Rarely but yes.....I can do that, I guess. "

The teacher started to concentrate, pouring his mama into his hands and growing a fireball as big as his head. The teacher nodded and Eyri  put one hand cupped around his mouth like a cresent moon and blow out the fire in an instant, leaving the teacher's hands frosted.

The students sat in amazement, magic rarely being seen as it was illegal to use it unless you were trained to.

"Fantastic!"

The rest of the class, Eyri took his seat and learned about the elementals their  opposites and what each one was capable off. In the next class they were outside in front of a training area, and obstacle course stood in front of them.
The teacher had them run through it until class was over, starting over if you failing a section; balance beams with moving obstacles, steep walls to get over, nets to climb, bars to cross, and pillars to traverse on top off.

At the end in the time for lunch and the boys had barely made it to the cafeteria before nearly crashing into some seats to finally have a rest.

"That was brutal. I got hit on the beam so many times...."

"I couldn't get passed the pillars. I have terrible balance."

Eryi got up, rubbing his sore arm, "I'll get us our food. "

Daniel nodded and relaxed as Eryi left to get their meals. He got in line and two guys much bigger than him got behind him.

One grabbed his horns with both hands and Eryi tensed up, trying not to move, "Please, let me go. "

"This whole school is about how to kill your kind and you think you're going to survive here?"

Eryi started to retort but they pulled on his horns and he cried out in pain, his knees felt like jelly but he remained standing- at least for now. There was now a crowd around the three men.

The other went to grab his arms, securing him as the original let go of his horns. In that moment, Eryi used all his strength to flip the boy holding his arms over him and on his ass. The first guy successfully tripped Eryi up as he went to run away. Eryi backed up, right into a literal corner; he had no where to go.  The other guy finally got up and now both of them were again on Eryi. One went to grab him but Eyri pulled him down into the wall as he reached his arm out, knocking him unconscious. The shock of the first gave Eryi enough time to get up.  As soon as he went to go punch the first guy, his collar went off and he screamed, pulling at it to try and take it off but eventually blacking out.

He woke up in am infirmary.

"He was attacked first. The whole point of this school is about defense, knights defending the country and your telling him students can't even defend themselves. And I didn't think there was a copy to the remote you gave me, there shouldn't be. "

"You have to understand, most people fear dragons and are taught they are the enemy. It's-"

"That is entirely irrelevant. He's a student and deserves to be treated as such. If this happens again, there needs to be consequences. And I don't mean for Eryi."

Eryi heard Daniel and the headmistress talking but was still quite weak. The collar used sparks of fire as well as an electric pulse- specifically made to keep an ice dragon in line. And after the obstacle course, he was already sore. He didn't stand a chance against the collar.

"D-Daniel?"

The curtains around his bed opened as he heard a door open and close, Daniel was there with a smile and the headmistress was gone.

"I'm here. Are you okay?"

Eryi sat up, and felt his neck, hissing as he touched the loosely wrapped bandages over his wounded skin, "it's... been a rough first day. "

Daniel sat on the end of the bed, "yeah but I dealt with it. That won't happen again... not without serious repercussions."

Eryi nodded, "what time is it? How long was I out?"

"Just a few hours but school is over now.   I got our homework from the other two classes we missed. Are you hungry? "

He swayed his head, "kind of? I am but my throat really hurts right now. Can I get some water?"

Daniel pulled a backpack up from the ground and pulled out a water bottle from the side, handing it to his friend.

Eyri sipped at it gladly. He swung his legs off the bed and stood up, "Well let's get this homework done.

They went back to the dormatories and entered their room, Daniel pulled out the textbooks he was given by the teachers.

"We're studying alchemy right now. And we have to figure out what magic I'm "naturally attuned to" or something like that. "

"Your father is good at fire magic...." Eryi said quietly.

"I know how badly he treated you...how almost everyone treats you..."

Eyri opened the book to chapter one, "I'd say it's okay but you'd just tell me it's not... I'm used to it by now is what I mean I guess. 10 years of it, of being away from home and everyone and everything I used to know. "

Daniel frowned, "Maybe you could go back one day?"

"I'd be an outcast there as well. Treated a bit better but then I wouldn't have anything, I'd have to start over all over again...I wouldn't have you. "

Daniel came over and hugged him, Eyri chuckled and eventually pulled away, "Focus, chapter one."
