This takes place on the day that Memory hatches. Fierceteeth & Strongwings have managed to get their claws on the Obsidian Mirror & one of the Dreamvisitors so that they can check on their dragonet.

I go to the cabinet & pull out the Obsidian Mirror & our Dreamvisitor. I walk into the dark room in the back of our house.

Strongwings enters with me & takes the Obsidian Mirror from my claws. He blows smoke over the smooth, black surface & whispers, "Memory."

                                                   ~>Memory<~

I press against the shell of my egg & hear an exited voice squeal happily, "It's hatching!"

A pair of talons scrambles into the room as I form another crack in the barrier that surrounds me.

"I'm having a vision! It's going to be... a boy!" The happy voice exclaims.

"Well based on statistics & probability, I think it's going to be a girl. I think my sister probably has pretty dominant genes," a second voice sounds calmly.

I burst out of my egg & land in a small, yet comfortable nest of blankets. I see two adult dragons sitting in front of me. One is purplish & has 3 silver teardrops by each eye. The other is greenish &  stares blankly foreword, as if he can't see at all.

"What does it look like?" The greenish dragon turns to the purplish one.

"It's a girl, so you were right about that," the purplish dragon, the exited one, picks me up gently,  "She's pinky-purple-y. The undersides of her wings look like a sort of splash of water starting in the center & splashing outward."

I squeak & look at my surroundings curiously. We are in a small room with a desk against one wall & a candle on top of it. A pile of mix-matched blankets sits in the corner. There is a wall covered entirely with scroll-shelves, every shelf is covered in scrolls & protruding letters, labeling the scrolls.

"Oh! We were supposed to give her this!" The greenish dragon sets a locket in front of me. Inside is a talon-painted portrait of two dragons holding each other. The dragons seem to be staring at me lovingly. One of the picture-dragons is pinkish & has green eyes that sparkle with mischief. She is thinner than the other, but looks more much more clever. A golden earring sparkles in her ear. The other picture-dragon is bluish & his eyes are blue. They reflect the personality of a protector. His wings hold the pinkish dragon lovingly & he is very much bigger. Their bodies curve together to form  a sort of heart shape.

When I let out a yawn, the purplish dragon sets me back in my nest

When I let out a yawn, the purplish dragon sets me back in my nest. I curl up & drift off to sleep.

                                                             ~[^Dream^]~

I sit in a field of white flowers, butterflies encircle my head. I hold my locket in my tiny talon. I let out a small gasp as a large orange & black butterfly lands on the tip of my snout. I jump & attempt to catch it in my mouth.

"Careful, sweetheart, that one's poisonous," I turn around to see the pinkish picture-dragon standing behind me, smiling kindly. A blue star-shaped-sparkle-thing sticks out of a pouch around her neck.

"Oh c'mon, Fierceteeth, let the dragonet chase it, nothing can hurt her here," the bluish picture-dragon steps out from behind the other, "Here you go, Mory." He holds out an identical butterfly & allows it to get away, only to be caught in my jaws.

"Memory," the pinkish dragon stands in front of me, "I'm 'Mommy'."- She presses a talon to her chest- "this,"- she gestures to the other dragon- "is 'Daddy'."

"M-Mo-Mommy," I struggle with the word, "D-Da-Dad-Addy-Daddy."

"Good girl."

Suddenly, the ground cracks open & reveals hot-red-water-stuff. Mommy's eyes widen, "Memory!"

Mommy leaps into the air & lifts me up in her talons. She lands & cradles my small body in her arms, my body shaking with panicked sobs.

"Oh, Mory," Daddy walks over & wraps his wings around me & Mommy, "it's okay, just a nightmare. Daddy gets them sometimes, too."

"So does Mommy," my mother speaks up.

The ground slowly grows back together, but I'm still crying.

"What if I sing you a song," Mommy asks, "Will that help you feel better?"

I look at her curiously, not knowing what a "song" is.

Mommy starts to talk again, but this time, it's softer & prettier, with Mommy's natural rough undertones:

"Where the north wind meets the sea

There's a river full of memory

Sleep, my darling, safe and sound

For in this river all is found

In her waters, deep and true

Lie the answers and a path for you

Dive down deep into her sound

But not too far or you'll be drowned

Yes, she will sing to those who'll hear

And in her song, all magic flows

But can you brave what you most fear?

Can you face what the river knows?

Where the north wind meets the sea

There's a mother full of memory

Come, my darling, homeward bound

When all is lost, then all is found"
