Jay eventually collected himself, his brain cells returning and his anger boiling down. With his temper under control and feeling much better, the jock dashed out of the car and headed to the rotting forest. He refused to lose his step-brother to a gross forest.
He sped down the parking lot and entered the rotting forest, to which he was met with gross muddy dirt that sank him a bit
“Ugh.” he muttered, pushing forward till he wasn’t in basically muddy quicksand. With the cold biting his face, and being too dark to see properly, Jay still continued onward, clinging for the one he, dare he admit, love.
“JUNGWON!” Jay cried out, screaming from the inner reaches of his lungs. He wanted to make the loudest sound possible, just for Jungwon’s attention. He ducked low tree branches and jumped over logs, while keenly looking out for tree roots that might twist his ankle.
The jock pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight, trying to draw attention and help Jungwon find him and help Jay find Jungwon.
‘BABE! WHERE ARE YOU!?” Jay roars out. He must’ve scared away birds or something because he kept hearing loud squawks and scratching. He would be nervous from all the mysterious noises but he knew he could beat anything, especially if it was an obstacle between him and Jungwon.
Crack
Jay twisted his head violently towards the sound, knowing that it was something breaking a branch.
“Jungwon!” Jay calls out, pointing his light at the source. He then hears hiccups and sobs, before the sound of footsteps running away.
“No.” Jay whimpered, following suit. His heart couldn’t handle losing the cute teen, bubbly and sweet with all of his cute little antics and noises. Details he appreciated and reveled in everyday spent with Jungwon. His boyfriend truly was the apple of his eye.
He dashed with all of his might, grateful for the year he did track instead of soccer. His legs burned and his throat was lumped with an ache. But it was nothing compared to the pain in his heart, forcing out tears as Jungwon continued to distance himself away from the jock.
Eventually, he entered a mysterious clearing in the rotting forest, passing away from all the dark green and browns. He could look up and he saw the stars, something they’d planned to do tonight before their parents decided to intervene.
In the middle, Jungwon sat in a ball, curled up and sobbing. Jay felt another layer of emotional ache for him, as he hated the sight of unhappy tears and distress. He just wanted the teen to live in a perpetual state of happiness sometimes but that was before he watched Inside Out and learned that would be unhealthy.
“Babe.” Jay whispered, reaching up to Jungwon and kneeling behind him. He placed one hand on his step-brother’s shoulder, giving it a firm squeeze. “Please, let’s talk this out.” Jay breathed out. He began to sit down next to Jungwon, the grass not being muddy compared to the rotting forest.
The jock wrapped one arm around Jungwon’s waist and Jungwon out of instinct leaned into Jay’s chest. Jungwon always found the jock’s pecs to be very warm and comforting. They stayed like that silently, Jungwon tears drying out and his sobs getting quieter.
Jungwon had spent the past ten minutes running around the rotting forest, emotionally confused and physically lost. At one point he became numb and just stood in the rotting forest, letting the mud sink him a bit before hearing Jay’s voice. He felt hunted then, almost and all of his emotions resurfaced, guilt, fear, sadness and so much more.
He was prompted to run around, trying to avoid Jay but he knew he couldn’t do that forever. So when he found the clearing, he decided it was time to settle, giving his cramped and tired muscles a chance to rest in a place that wasn’t mud and dark grossness.
The moonlight glowed upon them, the skies clear and full of the cosmos. It was rather beautiful and calming for them, giving perspective to them. It may have been a cold night but the warmth and love they had for each other kept them from freezing.
Finally, Jungwon broke the silence.
“I think we'll be fine.” Jungwon says. Seeing the stars, he felt a bit ridiculous, his reactions and all the fighting becoming so small insignificant compared to the vast reaches that was the universe.
“I think the same.” Jay responds. “So, can we continue being boyfriends Jungwon?” he asks.
“Yes, we’ll find a way to deal with our parents,” Jungwon says. “if it means another secret from them.”
“Yeah, what’s one more secret?” Jay downplays. He reached out for Jungwon’s cheek, cupping it and leaning downward to give a light kiss to the teen. Jungwon hums, missing the taste of Jay’s lips, and he can still taste the chapstick he gifted Jay one time.
“We can do this.” Jungwon whispers between kisses.
“Yes we can.”
