hide and seek!

"JULIET!" JULIET'S UNCLE'S voice was louder and harsher than he had previously yelled when calling the girl's name, probably due to the fact that they were indeed running late to their daily routines— and, because the two slices of bread in the toaster were burning.

"I'm coming!" Juliet shouted back with much annoyance, quickly standing up from her bed as she swung her backpack on.

"Excuse me? Who do you think you are talking to me in that tone, you sound just like your mother. Take the toast out of the toaster, it's all fucking burnt because of you." The man quickly scolded at the fiery-haired girl, who stomped right past him and toward the door. "Where the hell are you going, put the bread out of the toaster!"

"I'm running late!" Juliet annoyingly shouted at the man, quickly grabbing her glasses from the alcohol-stained sofa and made it to the front door of the small apartment they lived in.

"Hey—I'm not done talking to you, the fucking bread is—" That was all Juliet could hear before she slammed the door shut behind her, an annoyed glare placed on her freckled face as she quickly made her way down the hall of the apartment building.

Gosh, Juliet loved her uncle. She really did, but he never seemed to treat how he would if he loved her back. Of course, Juliet knew why he treated her the way he usually did—she wasn't stupid. The simple fact that her mother disappeared a random evening, leaving her brother, a fresh high school graduate, a random baby to suddenly look out for.

( He had no choice—the random guy who nobody knew of who so happened to be the father of Juliet was a no-show. )

Yeah, the man had no problem showing Juliet just how much he loathed her, not mentioning straight up telling her to her face. But, sadly, it was a neutral feeling—Juliet was forced to despise him.

"Woah— hey, Juliet—woah, you look mad." Peter, one of Juliet's best and only friends, quickly spoke as he almost ran into her after walking out of his apartment.

The two teenagers began quickly walking side-by-side to the elevator, like they always did every school morning.

"Oh, me? Mad? No!" Juliet sarcastically spoke, her icy blue eyes widening for emphasis.

"Your uncle again, isn't it?" Peter asked in a sorrow voice, looking over at the girl with concerned eyes as they reached the elevator.

"Yup." Juliet spoke, and quickly pressed the elevator button.

"I brought you some breakfast—figured you'd be hungry." Peter grinned, quickly reaching into his backpack pocket and pulling out a strawberry flavored nutrition bar, one which he knew was the girl's favorite flavor.

"Thanks."

"Juliet!"

The two teenagers quickly turned around to see her uncle quickly walking down the hallway.

"You don't shut the door on me while I'm talking to ya, young lady! You hear?"

"He's coming, Jules." Peter frantically spoke in his high pitched voice.
