Dolores made her way down to the Cruz residence, an extra pep in her step excited to see her friend once again. She really wanted to get to know Andrea but didn't have a chance until now. She finally reached the home, gently knocking on the door just loud enough to get their attention. Not wanting a headache before dinner.
A large, bearded man opened the door, causing Dolores to squeak a tad. He looked down at the young Madrigal. A warm smile quickly forming on his intimidating face. She waved awkwardly trying to come up with words to say, "Uh hi I'm here to get Andrea for dinner at my Casa.." Her tone a whisper almost which surprised Mr. Cruz. "Let me go get her! You uh wait right here." Before Dolores knew it the man disappeared into the nice Casa.
A few minutes later Andrea was pushed out and the door shut behind her. She wore a niceish dress, Red with yellow embroidered patterns across the skirt. Dolores's familia's colors! "You look good Mi amiga!" Dolores clapped with her fingers, not wanting to be too loud. Andrea gave and awkward smile, clearly nervous to meet her friend's family officially."Come on then." Dolores took Andrea's arm, leading her up the hill to the Casita. This trip all too familiar for the young Madrigal, a daily walk for her and her familia. They got closer to the casa, the colorful outter walls and bright flowers made it seem so friendly and welcoming, of course the family loved each other but not everyone healed from the past.
Thy made it to the top, Casitia opening its door welcoming them in with a helpful push. "Welcome Ms. Cruz!" Albuela Alma spoke from the 2nd floor. The sudden voice startled Andrea a bit, causing her to squeeze Dolores's arm, "Calm down.. You're doing great!" Dolores gave her friend a comforting smile.
"Everyone is meeting in the dining room at 7 pm, For now you may show her around Dolores." With that the older señora. Doloras turned to Andrea, "We can just go up to my room and sit for abit sense it's almost 7." Andrea did want to see the rest of the house but decided to wait for another time, felt rude to nose around someone else's house.
They decided to stay in the courtyard like area, chatting back and forth about each others past. Sharing silly secrets and gossiping about villagers. "And she blamed Tio Bruno one her fish dying, Still hasn't exactly forgiven him either. She always gives him glares when he's out and about." Dolores giggled about the crazy village lady, Andrea couldn't help but laugh. "I couldn't imagine holding such a grudge, The fish was probably old anyway!" the giggles caught Pepa's attention, she emerged from the kitchen noticing the girl her little boy had dance with at the fiesta.
"Well hello girls, Gossiping without me?" Andrea jumped out of her skin, not ready for the sudden voice. Pepa looked the girl up and down studying her behavior. Not just anyone could be with her little boy so this was important in her mind. "So, Andrea what brings you here on such a late time? Do you plan to stay overnight?" Andrea didn't think about staying the night but she nodded, shooting Dolores and quick glance. Dolores seemed happy with her answer, "Yeah Mami she was invited for dinner by Abuela."
Pepa seemed confused, shrugged it off as a nice gesture," Alright well we should all have a girls day with your Prima's and Tia." Pepa tapped her daughter's head gently. Dolores lit up with excitement, "Yes! We should plan that soon!" Andrea pipped up, she never had female friends in her old town.. well many friends at all.
"Dinners ready!" Mirabel emerged from the kitchen, shouting up to the rooms above her.
Dolores and Andrea made their way past Pepa into the dining area. Both of them taking a seat near each other, the cheeky Chamilo sat in front of Andrea, flashing her a smirk before starting a conversation with his prima Isabelle. Mirabel sat next to you, giving you the warmest smile. "Nice to meet you- Well officially meet you! I'm Mirabell." She offered her hand and Andrea gladly shook the girls hand but was suddenly kicked from under the table. This caused her to yelp slightly.
"Whoops.. meant to be a tap." Camilo gave an apologetic wave, his face heating up from embarrassment. Andrea looked as if she wanted to kill the boy but soon soften when he apologized. "It's fine stupid chameleon." A small smirk appeared on his face.
"You two done?" Bruno asked from across the table, causing the teens to glance up from each other's gaze. "Ehem ah yes sorry!" Andrea rubbed the back of her neck.
They all began to pass food around, filling their plates with different dishes Julieta had prepared. A normal dinner for the family but a weird one for Andrea. Her family never really ate together sense her mother's passing.. getting to mingle while enjoying a delicious meal felt different but nice.
"I'm so glad you could join us Ms. Cruz." Alma spoke up from the end of the table, a cheerful smile shown on her face. "Oh please just call me Andrea, Ms. Cruz makes me feel older then I am." Andrea laughed off her nervous tone. A hand met her shoulder, giving her reassurance. Surprisingly the hand belonged to Mirabel who sat next to her. Mirable could tell the girl wasn't as open as her family is but was thankful she was trying.
Camilo began to tap Andrea's foot with his own, thus starting a lengthy game of footsy as the too ate quietly. Both trying not to choke on their food from laughing. "Are you two ok?" Pepa stared at the two with confusion, neither could really answer without dying of laughter out loud. Andrea kicked Camilo a bit too hard causing him to turn into multiple different people before returning to himself.
The concerned glances continued while the two snickered towards each other.
"Ok enough flirting from under the table. " Dolores finally spoke causing the two to freeze while turning scarlet red. "Yeah you forgot I can hear little things, like you two kicking each other." She gently pushed Andrea playfully.Pepa finally caught onto what her daughter had heard, laughing a bit to herself. Just teens being childish as always. The two seemed two really enjoy each other's company so she didn't protest.
Dinner seemed finally over as the familia filed out to put their dishes away. Andrea lending a helping hand with washing dishes, hoping to get on Julieta's good side as well. The older señora seemed grateful for the help, enjoying the conversations Andrea and her had while cleaning the kitchen up.
Camilo even joined in which caused a playful fight between the two, "Camilo I swear stop splashing me with water!" Andrea flicked some water off her hands at the young Madrigal, "Says the one splashing me now." He grabbed a handful of water, tossing it at Andrea without hesitation, it left a large damp spot on her dress. "You owe me a dry pair of clothes if I plan to sleep over."
Camilo gave her a confused glance, "Stay over? I thought it was just dinner?" Andrea snickered to herself, "Your mamá invited me earlier thank you!" Camilo was a bit too excited for you to stay over, more the Dolores was. "Great this is better then the date you promised~!" Andrea punch the boy in his arm, which he made a whole dramatic scene. Pretending to die and all- "Oh look a dead rat on the floor! How tragic!"
With that last statement out came a scruffy man, an uncle? "Where? What rat is it??" He had a look of concern before he noticed his nephew on the ground playing dead. Camilo swiftly sat up, sending many apologies his uncle's way, "I'm sorry Tio Bruno! Didn't mean to startle you." The older man shuffled away muttering to himself, this left Andrea utterly confuse.
She offered a hand and helped Camilo off the ground, watching him brush himself off with an awkward smile. "So where do you plan to sleep? " He regained eye contact with her, his eyes drawing her in again. "Oh uh I planned to spend the night with Dolores why?" Camilo rubbed the back of his neck before answering, "Oh just curious!"
Andrea felt a small tap on her back, knowing who it was immediately. Once she turned around her guess was indeed correct, there stood Dolores holding a bunch of snacks for their Sleep over. Spoiler they never ate them.
Waving Camilo a goodbye the two girls made their way up stairs, pausing for a moment at Dolores's door. Once it was opened Andrea look in awe at how.. Normal the room looked. Dark wallpapers and covered windows gave it a calming vibe but the rest of the room was decorated like a normal teen room.. one notable thing was the utter silence in the room. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence but one that could easily relax an anxious person.
Dolores went to her closet to offer her new friend a comfy set of pajamas, which was different compared to what she normally wore to bed. She took the clothes gratefully and went into the nearby bathroom to change.. telling herself to bring her night clothes over next time just in case.
Andrea laid back onto Dolores's bed, the fluffly blankets swallowing her figure. "I love your room.." Andrea was at a whisper, not wanting to ruin the relaxing atmosphere, "It's meant to deafen my gift a bit, doesn't completely block out sounds sadly." she laid next to Andrea, staring up at her ceiling.
"I can hear Camilo trying to sneak closer to my door now." She giggled through a whisper. Andrea threw a pillow at the door, making a soft thud. Camilo seemed to hear which made him shuffle away. The two laughed with each other, a new wave of comfort washing over Andrea. She could fall asleep right there but didn't want to be rude.
She glanced towards Dolores, shocked to see her friend had fallen asleep already. The guilt of falling asleep first left as she relaxed back into the blankets. Gently drifting into sleep.
