It is my first day of school and I honestly wasn't too excited. I'm just wearing jeans and a top, nothing too exciting. My mom insisted that she drop me off at school.

"Have a great day, Alli. I love you!" my mom says.

"Thanks. I love you, too," I say. I get out of the car and walk through the doors of the school. It's much bigger than my old one, and there are so many more students. I was a bit confused, however, why the school had so much security and had to search through people's backpacks for possible weapons.

"Allison!" someone says. I look around, trying to find who said my name, and spot Tory. She comes up to me. "Hey! What's up? Have you made up your mind about joining our team?"

"Yea, I think I'm going to join," I say. Yesterday on my way home, I told myself I would talk to my mom about joining Cobra Kai, as she has mixed feeling about me getting back into the sport. In Chicago, I had a tournament, and in the quarter finals I got injured pretty badly. I had a broken arm and 2 bruised ribs. My mom was not happy and so she pulled me out of karate. It took a while to heal, and a week after I finished healing, she told me we would be moving to LA. I know my mom won't be pleased I went behind her back, but hopefully she'll be fine with the idea of me getting back into karate.

"Great!" Tory says. "I'll let our teammates know that you joined when I see them around school."

First on the scheduel is a grade assembly in the gym, so Tory and I head there together. For some reason, many people stared at Tory and I and whispered when we were walking through the hallway. Tory and I sit down on the top bleacher. I look around and try to spot Robby. Maybe he goes to this school, too.

"Hey, I have a question. Does Robby go to this school? Or a different one?" I ask.

"Oh, um-, Robby got expelled from here," she says.

"Expelled? What? Why?"

"Well, basically wh-," she starts, but is interrupted by the music of the trumpets from band as the school assembly begins. "I'll tell you later."

After assembly is over, it is time for my first class. I have Calculus and Tory has Physics, so I head to my classroom alone. I get a seat in the back of the class.

"Sam, I can't make it to karate practice today," a dude with a purple mowhawk says. He's sitting in the seat across from me and the person he's talking to, Sam, is sitting in the seat in front of him.

"We only have a few weeks till the All-Valley! You can't miss practices!" Sam says.

"Chill out, it's just this once," he says. I couldn't help but involve myself into the conversation.

"Um, guys. You said something about a karate tournament. I just joined Cobra Kai but I don't remember seeing you guys yesterday."

"Cobra Kai? No. We're part of Miyagi-Do Karate. Cobra Kai is terrible," Sam says.

"So you just joined Cobra Kai?" the mowhawk dude asks. "You still have a chance to leave."

"Yea. I moved here a few days ago from Chicago. I did karate there so I wanted to find a dojo here, and the people there nice."

"You're going to regret it. They're bad people. Trust me," the girl says. "It's not too late to join our team," she smiles. Something about Sam annoys me, its probably her obnoxious smile and the fact that she thinks she's better than everyone.

"I'm gonna pass. I like my team members so I'm going to stick with them," I say. They both look at each other and scoff.

"What's your name," the mowhawk boy says.

"Allison."

"Well, I'm Hawk and this is Sam, and you should know that anyone part of Cobra Kai is an enemy to us." I raise my eyebrows. So there are rivalries between different dojos? That's so stupid.

"Tory, why are Sam and Hawk saying that Cobra Kai has bad people? What's all the drama with our and their dojo?" I ask when we're at lunch.

"Oh, it's kinda complicated. But um- last year there was a fight between members of different dojo's at school. And well- some people got hurt, so yea. And basically Cobra Kai hates Miyagi-Do, and also hates another dojo called Eagle Fang. And those 2 dojo's also hate us."

"Wait. That fight. Is that the reason why Robby got expelled?" I ask.

"Yes. And um- I was also expelled. But it was revoked over the summer. Sam and some others also received short suspensions."

"So, you guys had a fight at school because you didn't like each other's dojo's?"

"Yes, I know how stupid that sounds," she laughs. "Everyone agrees that the school fight was stupid, and we're trying to move past it, but some people, Sam especially, will not. She always brings it up and it's so annoying," she says. "Also, even after I told you all about that, you're still coming to practice today, right?"

"Yea, I'll be there."
