Cass's POV
When I pull into Cassandra's driveway, Kaleb's and Katie's cars are in the driveway. However, Steven's isn't. I sigh and climb out and grab Mere. I carry her up the front steps in her car seat. I sit her down on the front step and open the door. I then pick her back up and carry her inside. I smile at Cassandra who is the first person I see. She smiles at back at me.
"Hey Cass. Did you get Cocoa's cake for me?" I nod. "Thanks Cass. You're a life saver. Things have been so hectic here. So, is Mere okay?" I smile down at my sleeping baby.
"Yea. It was just the stress. But she's all better now."
"That's good." I set Mere down in the living room and then go with Cassandra to get the rest of the things for Cocoa's party out of the car. Then, me, her, and Katie all start decorating. Katie smiles over at me.
"So, Cass, Mike tells me you're pretty good at art." I blush.
"I'm not really that good..." Cassandra looks over at me and laughs.
"Don't be modest Cass. You're amazing." I blush even harder. Then, I hear the back door burst open and angry footsteps approach us. Kayden comes in the room, throws something down at Cassandra's feet, then stomps into the living room. Cassandra frowns as Makayla hurries into the room. She smiles sadly at Cassandra. She then follows Kaleb into the kitchen. Cassandra sighs. "He's been really short with every one ever since Mike..." She sighs again. Katie looks down at her from the ladder she's using to hang up balloons.
"He deserved it Cassy. He most definitely deserved it. I look over at her confused.
"Cassy?" Makayla laughs.
"Yea. That's what I used to call her when we were kids." I nod in understanding. "So, has Mike told you why he hit Kaleb yet?" I shake my head. She looks shocked. "Do you know who Kaleb is?" I slowly shake my head again. Katie looks bewildered down at her sister. Cassandra sighs. Then goes and stands next to me.
"Do you promise not to tell anyone except Mike?" I nod. "Kaleb is Hannah'sand Kayden's dad." I gasp.
"What's he doing here?" Cassandra sighs and looks over at her sister.
"Makayla's been my best friend since college. When Cassy..." She looks over at Cassy who nods for her to continue. "When mom and dad kicked Cassy out, she came and stayed in our dorm for a little bit. That's where she met Makayla's brother Kaleb. It was awesome when they first started dating. He was so sweet to Mike once he was born, and he was there for Cassy all through out her pregnancy with Hannah. No one really knows for sure why he broke up with her after Hannah was born. Anyway, he'd been begging Makayla to have me talk to Cassy so he could meet his kids. Finally, I gave in. However, we can all now see that that was a big mistake." A small chuckle escapes my lips, and Cassandra and Katie look over at me.
"I'm sorry. I just realized how funny Mike hitting him was." It was all quiet for a minute before the whole room broke out into loud laughter. Just then, the front door opens, and the kids start pouring inside off of the bus. After their arrival, it doesn't take anywhere near as long to finish decorating.
