"So you will have the rest here by tomorrow?" Jae's mother asked a man who stood on guard, in uniform, his firearm lowered in relaxed poise.
Jae stalked around in the massive, dark garage that harbored all of the dinosaurs from Isla Nublar. Her wealthy parents, who didn't care much for her at all, were apparently funding a new protection program for the remaining dinosaurs--all of them--and had bought several island chains in the South Pacific to release the animals onto, where humans were prohibited.
"Yes, ma'am, the rest are coming shortly." The man replied with a slightly irritated nod of his head.
"And, you're sure you have lodging for us for the week while we...deal with the rest of it?" said Mr. Wolfthorn. He wasn't Jae's father, but father to Drake, the only other kid on the chain of islands.
Jae's family and Drake's were both funding this mission, and were somehow also part of the operation. Jae didn't know why, but she wasn't going to complain: She--aside from Drake--was the only kid who'd ever set foot on this island, and she was the last kid who'd ever see the dinosaurs alive here. Currently, they were on the largest of the island chains, the one they called Sanctuary Island.
Jae paced closer to the five adults, glancing from cage to cage in the shadows as she crept closer.
"Of course. There is housing two miles north of here, where you will--"
"I hope it's safe, you know. Our families will be coming here shortly." Interrupted Jae's mother.
Our families? No! Great! Jae growled inwardly.
She did not want her siblings here. They'd get killed in a heartbeat and spoil all of Jae's studying.
Jae sighed. I guess I won't be the last kid to ever see these dinosaurs alive...
"Yes, ma'am. I promise you, to stay on this Island--even the one who will be home to only herbivores--you're going to have the highest security." Said the man sigh a sigh. Jae smiled; she knew her mother could be quite a pain in the tail. "Your children will be safe, and as will you four. We even have two titanium walled in yards for them to...frolic in, if need be."
"Hmm," Mrs. Firestorm nodded with a wrinkled face and pursed lips, her eyes slightly rebellious, though she argued no more. "Pleasant." She said in a rougher tone, traipsing away. The Wolfthorns, the man in uniform, and Jae's father started after her.
Jae tilted her head, following the group with her green optics. Do they not even care that their children are still inside this building with actual, living, breathing dinosaurs? Jae felt a twinge of sadness, but she'd gotten used to the feeling of neglect.
"And, we clearly need to review this, since Stephen and I haven't heard a thing about it," hissed Jae's mother again. "Which islands are the dinosaurs being divided into?"
"I agree, Cheryl," Mrs. Wolfthorn said tensely. "Will they be divided into categories? Predatory and prey? Size? Diet? And what life forms are on these islands? Enough for all of the carnivores?"
"Well, here, we have a map..." The man in uniform slung his gun around to rest against his back, and moved towards the far wall, where a lantern illuminated a large, low flat table. A vast map of the islands was spread out on its surface. The group moved towards it eagerly.
So, they'll be divided? Jae glanced up at the nearest cage; a sedated Carnotaurus lay sprawled on his side peacefully. I guess that makes sense. Leave the defenseless ones to a peaceful life, and give the carnivores one that doesn't disturb the others.
