It had begun to drizzle, the promise of a cleansing to the islands. Light grey clouds, toned with a darker grey hue, closed in on the expansive sky. Their dark mass grew only dimmer, and the sun was soon completely shrouded in the fuzzy accumulation of smoky grey.

Midnight Moon's blue hide was bathed with droplets that showered across her beautiful pelt. Her hooves sunk deep into the sandy shore, which was beginning to grow violently windy, tossing her soused white mane and tail.

Jae's long, rippled dark brown hair was curly now with the humidity and it was chaotically tangled. She brushed strands of it out of her face as the intemperate gale roared over the island, casting her dark tresses into her line of vision.

Ugh, when did this storm just show up? Jae thought with bitter amusement. When did it have the audacity to show up? Urging Midnight Moon into a strong gallop, Jae gripped the mare's thick, drenched mane in her hands, hurrying her back up to the jungle and road to their house. After leaving the beach and struggling up through the steep, differing terrain, they reached the road, and Jae let Midnight Moon run full-pelt down the muddied, broad earth course back to their manner.

Arriving with in four minutes, the first greeting Jae and the fatigued Midnight Moon received was from Happy. He bleated as if they'd abandoned him for months in the walled front of the mansion.

Midnight Moon panted laboriously, her breath huffing through her enlarged nostrils. Jae slid off her doused back and led her into the yard, slipping her bridle off and taking it inside. Happy griped, bounding to her side as she traipsed for the stately front doors. Jae scratched his head once and continued into the massive house, ignoring his cries to play.

Once inside, the peace that flooded her was overwhelming. Jae sank down onto the floor against the doors and took a long moment to catch her breath. Then she went straight up to her room.

I guess Father and Mother aren't here...Jae thought sleepily, turning the cold, dull knob to her room--

"Whoa!" Jae's green eyes enlarged when the door swung open to reveal boxes and crates stacked inside. "They came!"

it was only a moment of stillness before she bounded in. Jae rushed to dig through the one certain suitcase she remembered packing. Her heart raced, her eyes stayed widely dilated, sparkling with a starlight of excitement and hope. Her hands dug through her clothes--which she was relieved for having now--then books.

     Yes, it was close.

Come on, oh---Oh! There you are! Jae lifted a thick, leather-bound title. The words were in gold, the leather was silvery-grey, and her eyes scanned over it with a jovial gleam.

My Bible. Jae thought, her excitement calming. Ever since she was young, she'd had this Book. He Grandparents had given it to her, against her parents' will. She'd kept it a closely guarded secret. She didn't want her parents taking such a wonderful thing away from her, especially when she'd had to keep it so furtive her whole life.

     It was annoying, really.

Jae suspired in repose and plucked a large dark blue blanket from another box. She as well took one of her downy pillows from the same box, and took them to her bed and curled up in the soft cover against her pillow. She read through the first few chapters of Isaiah until sleep submerged her into a restful darkness.

"Jae! Jae! Are you in there?"

Jae's eyes snapped open. She immediately snatched the Book and shoved it under her blankets and pillows.
