Y/n sat on the stairwell waiting for Miguel. "Come on, Diaz. Don't screw up," she muttered to herself. Then, Miguel walked around the corner grinning from ear from ear. "Guess who's got a date tonight?" he asked.
Y/n's mouth dropped open in surprise. "She said yes!" she said and stood up quickly. They high fived each other.
"Don't act so surprised, man,"Miguel said jokingly and crossed his arms.
Y/n rolled her eyes and patted Miguel on the back "I gotta say, I'm proud of you. Not many guys have the balls to do that," y/n smiled. The school bell rang and all the students scurried around like rats.
"Thanks, and hey don't worry Demetri will come around eventually," Miguel smiled and started walking to his next class.
Y/n stopped in her tracks. "What?! Diaz, There's nothing going on between us, I hope you know that!," she shouted after him.
Then she heard a familiar voice beind her.
"Hope who knows what?" Demetri asked.
Y/n's eyes widened as she turned to look at him.
"Nothing" y/n replied nervously.
------------------
That evening, Demetri and y/n were playing Call of Duty at y/n's house.
Y/n was wearing a pair of grey sweats and Demetri's t shirt.
"Am I ever gonna get that shirt back," He asked, after glancing over at her, mid-game.
"Probably not, it's really comfortable," Y/n said truthfully.
Demetri didn't mind at all. Even if no one else knew that the shirt was his, he did and that's all that mattered.
Then, both of their phones started ringing.
A unsaved number was calling y/n. Miguel was calling Demetri. Demetri paused the game and they both picked up the phone.
"Hello? Who's this, I don't have your number saved," y/n asked.
"Hey, is this y/n? It's Samantha Larusso," a voice said through the phone.
"Oh yeah hey Sam, how'd you get my number?" y/n asked as she walked into the kitchen.
-
"Hey Miguel, how'd your date go?" Demetri asked.
"It went great man. You should come over so I can tell you about it, " Miguel said dazedly.
"Not right now dude, I'm hanging with y/n. Yanno on the phone to Sam right now as we speak," Demetri said, looking into the kitchen at y/n, smiling.
"Look at our two girls, being friends and all that," Miguel said.
"Mhm, but the only thing is that she's not my girl," Demetri sighed.
"Bro come on, just ask her out already. You know she likes you, right?" Miguel asked, tired of their 'will they, wont they' shit.
"No. No I don't, what do you mean she likes me?" Demetri asked hurriedly.
"You're blind. You're actually blind," Miguel said, unimpressed.
Then, y/n walked back into the sitting room with some popcorn.
"I-I gotta go Miguel, I'll come over after school tomorrow though," Demetri muttered and hung up the phone.
"Wanna watch something?" y/n asked.
Demetri nodded. Was what Miguel said true? Did y/n want to keep his shirt for a reason other than how soft it was? "No Miguel's just trying to boost my confidence," he mumbled.
"Hm, what'd you say love?" y/n asked.
Demetri raised an eyebrow "Love?"
Why was this the first time he said anything about that. "I've called you that for years... I can stop, if you'd like," y/n threw some popcorn into her mouth.
Demetri exhaled deeply in embarrassment. Why did he even comment on it? She calls almost everyone 'love'. "No I don't mind," he said.
"Ok..." y/n said and clicked onto Netflix. Demetri was acting really weird lately.
They ended up watching Baby Driver and halfway through, y/n rested her head on Demetri's shoulder.
"This is new," Demetri thought, but didn't say anything.
--------
"You know- " Demetri started, but when he turned to look at y/n he realised that she had fallen asleep.
He tried to put his arm around her to make her more comfortable but when he did, she started to stir.
"shit," Demetri whispered, hoping that he didn't wake her up.
"hmm?" y/n mumbled sleepily.
"Lie back down, I was just getting comfy," Demetri said softly.
Y/n nodded and snuggled into him.
Demetri grinned proudly. Maybe Miguel was right.
