That night was complicated.

Those feelings; they weren't platonic, were they? I was just confused, right?

Didn't I hate him just 6 hours ago?

I laid under the soft blankets of my bed, my room silenced. The only noise was that of my own breathing. I couldn't sleep, my mind was going crazy.

I didn't really like him. We were friends since early childhood, how could I possibly like him that way?

But then, knowing him so long, I knew that he was a good person. He would be a nice boyfriend. He's sweet and carefree, not to mention talented.

It was then, while I was completely lost in thought, that my phone started buzzing. I picked it up from my nightstand.  Venti. I answered his call.

"Why are you calling me this late?" I asked, tiredness clear in my voice.

"Oh, I just wanted to hear your voice! I didn't expect you to pick up..." He replied, still seemingly energetic. I sighed.

"How do you have this much energy? And when'll you stop being such a flirt?"

"Energy drinks. And I'm not stopping. Especially when it's you I'm flirting with." He said, a playful tone in his voice.

"What?! Why me?" I exclaimed. It's almost as if he enjoys watching me turn pink.

"Because it's funny, since you hate me so much."

"I don't hate you, I don't think."

"Oh really? Something changed?"

"Well, maybe I never hated you," I realized. Was I really saying all of this?

"So you throw ice cream on me?" The sarcasm in his voice was crystal clear.

"That's unrelated."

"That's usually what people with hatred do. But, if you don't hate me, I'm glad." A smile spread like butter across my face.

"That's good, because I think I might-" My phone was buzzing uncontrollably once again. I checked the caller: Bennett. He doesn't call much, only when somethings important.

Uh-oh.

"Y/n? Are you there?"

"Venti, do you mind if I go?" I asked, frantic.

"No problem! It's late, after all. Good niiiight!" I quickly hung up and answered Bennett's call.

"What's going on this late?" My worry was evident.

"I dunno...!" Bennett said with a dreamy tone.

"Come on, tell me," I was practically dying to hear his news.

"Well, I'm not too sure but I think I like Barbara," he responded.

"Didn't you say earlier that you like someone else?!"

"Yeah, and I do! So I'm super confused!" I let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness it wasn't anything serious.

"Oh, who's the other?"

"Not telling," He said firmly. It was the first time I heard him speak like that.

"Oh, come on," I replied with disappointment. We had been friends since middle school, there wasn't anything to hide.

"But I don't know what to do," He whined.

"You've got a crush on two people, so just wait it out! Surely you'll end up liking one more, right?" I advised, "Just see who you like more after a while, and ask them out!"

"You're probably right..." He said, "You're the best, Y/n! Thanks!" He abruptly hung up.

It was only the first day and so much had happened. Venti's back, flirtier than ever. Bennett's got a crush on two people. I've got a bunch of new friends, and a returning crush on Venti. What a pain. It's still not bad stuff, though.

I really like where this year is going.
