Max glanced behind him. He could turn back now of course but he willed his legs to keep going. Pale white lights illuminated the old hallway; highlighting the imperfections of the mildew covered walls. It was nauseous inside; fresh air hadn't been inside for years. It smelt wet and stale inside and it grew worse as he got closer to one of the main rooms. He felt larger than he remembered; his scruffy brown hair inches from the top of the peeling white doorframe. A wave of nostalgia washed over him. An old banner read Welcome! In red and white. The words were surrounded by cute animals wearing costumes. The colours on it had faded like the rest of the building, causing it to look eerie in the faint white light. Max listened to his heartbeat as he gazed around the room. It was circular and there were 4 hallways like he remembered. The only difference now was that he didn't have a staff member to guide him around the labyrinth of rooms. There were two hallways on either side of a curved black booth with red curtains. He thought for a moment before deciding on hallway number 3 on the right side of the room. Max's runners tapped the tile floor quietly; echoing off the walls. The lifeless air was cold and gave him a slight chill.
