TW: Intrusive thoughts

Wilbur couldn't stop thinking about the night before. He was in his bed and he couldn't sleep.

Eh, might as well do something useful, he thought as he threw the blankets off of him and sat by his desk.

After reading about 10 pages about the American Revolution, which he of course knew everything about because of Hamilton, he heard his door open a bit. Wilbur turned around and said: "Come in!" with a soft voice.

The door opened, and there stood his father. Wilbur felt himself shrink a bit.

"I had a feeling you might still be awake", Phil said with a soft smile as he sat down on Wilbur's bed. Wilbur looked away and decided his desk was more interesting than his fathers wrinkles. Sorry I mean face. Face. Anyway, Phil sighed.

"Look Will, I'm really sorry for what I said earlier. You couldn't control if Oscar would come or not. Plus I'm sure you did your best to protect him. It was really uncalled for to say, but I suppose I get a bit protective of Tommy since he's my little boy. Can you forgive me Will?" Wilbur looked up at his father. Phil had a sad smile, one of those when you're sorry about something.

"It's okay, Dad. You were just looking out for Tommy. It's fine", Wilbur gave Phil a smile, then looked away again.

If only you could look out for me as well.

"You should probably sleep mate, it's 3:30 am", Phil suddenly said.

"I- No it's fine I need to study anyway", Wilbur said. His father frowned.

Shit. I shouldn't have said that. I should've just said okay and pretend to go to sleep then study more when he's gone. I'm stupid.

"Will, you need to sleep. How often do you stay up all night studying?"

"I-" Wilbur didn't know what to say. Phil had gone to sit down on the bed again, signalling he wasn't gonna leave anytime soon. "Well- I- N-Not of-ften"

"Wilbur, please don't lie, I want to help you", Phil said, with no anger or disappointment lingering in his eyes or voice. Just concern. Wilbur sighed.

"Kinda often..." Wilbur knew that Phil would know if he lied again, so he just gave up.

"Ooh, mate" Phil sighed as he reached forward to give his son a hug. "Why?" he asked after a while.

"Why what?" Wilbur said, pulling away slowly.

"Why would you stay up all night studying? You already have such great grades!" Phil had his hands on his son's shoulders. Wilbur did not know how to get out of this. He couldn't just tell his father everything.

Well, I mean, you can, A voice in his mind said. The first positive voice. Ever.

But even though he had encouraging voices for the first time, the answer was still:

"No reason"
