Chapter 4:
The car halted in front of the building signaling my arrival then Paulo went out and opened my door. I stepped out of the car and exhaled loudly.
Paulo chuckled at me, "It seems like your visit to your parents gave you so much stress." The wrinkles on the side of his eyes are very much evident due to his old age.
I clutched the strap of my shoulder bag, "Not just stress." I gave him a weak smile then headed off towards the large glass doors that are held open for me by two security guards.
"Good morning Ma'am." They greeted simultaneously.
I walked pass the information desk and into one of the elevators. The employees who are already inside the elevator greeted me but I just gave them a slight nod for I'm not feeling well today and I'm not in the highest spirits to even give an energetic response.
Ding.
The elevator door opened. Brenda was the first one to approach me.
"Good morning Ma'am, uhm Mr. Daniel Clifford is inside your office." She said while handing me the papers that I needed to sign.
"Okay."
When I entered my office I immediately spotted Daniel who is sitting on the chair that is facing my desk.
"Welcome back!" He stood up and gave me a hug.
"I should be the one who's welcoming you." I gave his back a light tap then I let go.
He chuckled then I told him to sit down.
I placed my shoulder bag on my desk and then I removed my blazer and placed it around my chair then I sat down. "So, how was your trip?"
His eyes immediately shined when I mentioned his trip with his boyfriend.
"Oh! It was so much fun! We got to visit so many places and Jerry and I ate at this fabulous new restaurant! Clarisse, It was all so perfect! Oh! And by the way, I bought you a souvenir!" He handed out a large red paperbag.
This made me smile. "You shouldn't have."
"Oh shush! Just open the bag already!" He looked more excited than me.
The paperbag was heavy and when I opened it my mouth hanged open and my eyes grew wide.
A miniature of the famous Eiffel Tower is standing inside the paperbag.
I took it out and placed it on my wooden desk.
I marvelled at its beautiful craftsmanship, it is the exact replica of the Eiffel Tower and at it's middle is a small antique-looking clock.
I smiled thankfully at my bestfriend. He really knew how to make my day.
"I knew you'll like it."
"I don't like it...I love it! Thank you Daniel." I stood up and went to his side then I hugged him.
He rubbed his hand on my back soothingly. I pulled away and grazed my hand on the metal that formed the mini Eiffel Tower.
"Okay, change topic! Now it's your turn to tell me what happened with your little trip to your parents' house." He crossed his legs and leaned back.
I went back to my seat and sat down. I placed my hands on top of my wooden desk.
I sighed heavily. "Well when I got there they told me that there's been an agreement between Dominic Marshall and Papa."
Daniel's eyebrows furrowed, "Dominic Marshall?"
"Yes. He's the former President and CEO of-"
"Marshall Group Of Companies." He said.
