Chapter 27 - Lodger

I sit still and patiently wait for Jia to answer my offer. I can tell that she feels a bit uneasy but I also know that this is the best option she has. She can't stay in the grocery store or any other place, the police will find her and she will be accused of breaking in and maybe even go to jail. Which will lead to consequences since her real self is dead and so is the body she has taken over. And she can't stay outside, it is cold and dangerous. 

- Are you sure that's fine? She finally asks. 

- Yes, you can stay there for some time. I assure her, smiling softly. 

- Thank you, I promise I will try to stay for as short as possible. She says and pulls me into a hug. 

I giggled and hugged her back. It feels easy to talk to her, she is very kind and friendly, at least after she warmed up a bit to me and I know we are going to be great friends. We pull away and bid goodbye to Soojin before we get inside Jia's car and she drives us to Jungkook's and my apartment. 

- Y/N, can I ask you something? She suddenly said, breaking the silence that was consuming the car. 

- Of course. I answered, turning my attention to her, watching her side profile as she was driving the car.

It felt weird to see how I used to look from another perspective, I was used to seeing myself in a mirror or through a picture, but this was the way everyone actually saw me. 

- How did you know what happened to me?

How do I say this without it sounding too crazy? I thought. I mean nothing in this situation wasn't crazy so I guess I better just tell her the truth, no beating around the bush. She was going to find out sooner or later. 

- Because you took my body. I explained. 

- Wait, this body... Was yours? She asked in shock. 

- Yes. 

- Oh my god, I-I didn't know, this must feel so weird. 

- Kinda but I'm so used to this one now that I honestly forgot how I looked, that's why I was so confused at the grocery store because you looked so familiar but I couldn't place you. I explained. 

- So, who's body did you take?

- Some girl that died over 20 years ago. I honestly thought that you only got inside those bodies that passed away a long time ago since that wouldn't complicate things for relatives of that person but I guess I was wrong. 

- When did you get back? 

- 4 years ago. 

She falls silent and nods her head, focusing on the road in front of her. The rain was still pouring down making it a bit hard to see the road clearly but we did manage to get to the apartment building safe and sound and she parked her car in an empty parking space. 

I understand that this must feel weird for her, I mean she is going to stay at a stranger's house and that stranger just happens to be the person whose body she took over. It was honestly very weird for me as well. I was probably stupid to open my home to a person I didn't know but what's life without taking any risks?

I had no idea how Jungkook was going to react upon seeing the old me again, I mean most of our memories were from when I was in that body. I'm just hoping this won't complicate things. 

Jia followed me up to Jungkook's and my apartment, she was fidgeting with her fingers nervously as I unlocked the door with my key. I walked inside and the sound from the TV playing was the only thing that could be heard. 

- Oh, does he, does he know? She whispered into my ear.

- Yeah, he knows, he was actually my boyfriend before I died, and then we got together again.
