New years rewind

(This is the captain speaking. Sooo. I forgot about this chapter in my drafts. 💀 Sorry it's almost two months late.)

Flashback

New years at midnight

They had just finished the countdown. Normani and Ally had just left to have some privacy for their new years kiss. Thandiwe and Yaya were sitting in the empty dining room having a conversation while everyone else was outside partying.

Thandiwe set her glass of Virgin blood down onto the table. "Can you believe Jada didn't show up because Normani is here?" She asked Yaya who texting on her phone.

Yaya set her phone down. "Yeah. She's never liked her. She used to bully Normani until Mani had enough and kicked her ass. Now she just say slick comments when Mani isn't around which is all the time since Normani is never around."

"I mean she was right." Zoe said as she entered the room. "Normani is not one of us. She never will be. She's a Kordei. They are the weakest vampires. Her family single handedly caused the destruction of most of their strand."

Thandiwe slapped her sister in the face. "Keep your voice down. First, Normani is far from weak. We've all seen what she will do if her back is against the wall. It's not pretty. Remember the battle of daily rose." Thandiwe looked her sisters, and they both cringed thinking about the battle. "Second, she doesn't know the whole truth about her family. She only knows that her parents double crossed a coven of witches, so let's keep it that way. Mama made it very clear of what she would do if one of us told Normani everything. Jada was never that brave to stoop that low. Do not find yourself on mama's bad side." Thandiwe reminded her sister who had clearly lost her damn mind for her to say something so foolish.

"And she's not the longest reigning queen for no reason." Yaya added to her sister's point.

Their mother, Angela, had zero tolerance for the bullshit. She would kill anybody that wronged her in a heartbeat. Angela didn't rule with an iron fist. Her word wasn't the only one that mattered. She had a whole council and everything. There was a judicial, legislative, and executive parties, so it wasn't like a dictatorship.

Zoe rubbed her cheek that her sister had just slapped. "Whatever. I'm just saying that she wasn't wrong. Let's be honest though. Jada bullied all of us. Not just Normani." Zoe rolled her eyes.

"True. She hated all of us." Yaya took a sip of her beverage.

"She still does. She hates anyone who isn't her." Zoe stood up. "Alright. I'm going to head out. I miss my kids. I'll see everyone tomorrow. I'm going to go talk to them on the phone when I make it to the hotel."

"I'll walk you out. Afterwards I'm going to swing by and get Normani and Ally." Yaya stood up to follow Zoe.

"Make sure they aren't having sex in my house." Thandiwe mocked Angela and Zoe laughed.

"I doubt they are. They said that they wouldn't." Yaya replied sarcastically. They were more than likely having sex wherever they were.

Thandiwe downed the rest of her drink."I don't feel like joining the party. I'll walk with yall."

Zoe scratched the back of her neck. "Actually, I think I'm going to walk alone. I have to talk to some people before I leave."

"Okay." Thandiwe hugged her little sister. "I love you and be safe on your way to your hotel."
