a few years has passed, yet almost nothing changed-- with the exception for you being tutored by nichola's father in some sort of an adjacent home-school, adjacent because you don't live with them.

somewhat speaking of nicholas, he's pretty neat-- he still sucks at bantering since he's easily bewildered at your antics but you find it funny. even if it's not as often you two get to hang out since he's mostly out doing stuff related to swords or something.

still, it was nice to learn new things... apparently, potions is the only magical medium that doesn't need the person to have actual experience with spellcasting or something along the lines. basically anyone can make a potion as long as they have the right ingredients.

which is a bit of a shame since the best (and only) potions academy exclusively accepts nobles, unless a very fortunate commoner gets their hands on a recommendation.

and you just happen to be one of them.

while monologuing about your 'karma' the odd-colored liquid inside your cauldron starts to bubble ominously, almost like it was about to--

"FUCK!"

it exploded, if it werent for your protective goggles it could have blinded you, lucky indeed.

"language, attention to the cauldron. try again."

"right, sorry."

you carefull emptied the cauldron before putting water inside it again, now paying attention whenever it started to bubble. apparently monologuing while boiling magic water is a bad idea, who knew? not you because from what little you knew, potions-- or at least unfinished potions don't really explode at high temperatures.

you carefully lessened the volume of the flames, the bubbling decreased before you started to add small quantities of some sort of dust you couldn't remember the name of.

the water looked slightly lavender, you slowly stirred as you poured the powder-- it looked more blue-ish.

while carefully listening for any bubbling, you grabbed a faraway cup of small candy-looking seeds and poured... one-two... three... five... six-seven-- seven pellets, one by one.

okay... it's purple again, now add a couple of dandelion-looking flowers... dark magenta...

increase the fire... purple... is it an energy potion? you reached for a bowl with a few golden branches.

"add the charcoal instead."

... you did, the rocks stained your gloves. the potion was a deep, dark blue.

"turn the stove off."

you grabbed one of the wooden ladles and scooped the liquid into a small flask.

"do you know why i told you to add it?"

"not really."

"remember when i told you that potion is somewhat like writing a poem? what is coal commonly associated with?

"people often associated with nines-- working and it's dark color..."

"exactly, exhaustion potion."

"not a sleeping one?

"no, remember how it has the main ingredients of an energy potion? instead of those branches we used coal? what happens when one doesn't has energy?"

"they're tired, exhausted."

"exactly, you know why we made an exhaustion potion?"

"... to think outside the box?"

"somewhat, to think like a poet."

"oh... does the academy has some sort of test?"

"correct."
