the academy's marble brick walls and coppery-gold gate towered over you. almost looming, ready to crush you at the slightest hint of movement, a reminder that you probably do not belong there-- a place for rich, elegant nobles not a... pathetic proletariat who just happened to be lucky enough to even dare to try their hands at the pratical exams.
hah, this isnt like hogwarts at all!
you blinked, eyes burning from the light reflected on the metalic gates. you should probably start moving or else you'll get crushed by the crowd of students moving towards the now open gate.
kaleidoflask, you'd thought it'd be more... colorful and less dark academia but you'll take what you can get, you're not in the position to be picky.
you walked towards the even taller building, cape almost floating as you moved, it wasn't part of the uniform of course, they only handed them to those who passed the exam-- so people mostly dressed in fancy clothes in the first day to get a good first-impression and possibly a better score.
armor-clad guards were littered almost excessively throught the building, blocking prohibited doors and making a sort of wall to 'rail-road' the students towards the laboratory. you'd guess is to avoid people getting lost and or cheating but that's still a bit overboard.
people bumped into you and sometimes stepped onto your cape purposefully, you don't think it's because of your clothes but simply because they're rich assholes that think they can get away with anything.
not even the first day and you're already getting quasi-bullied, lovely.
as soon as you reached the laboratory you scrambled to get into the somewhat-best seats before anyone beats you to it. to be honest, the place looked more like a theater with tables than a classroom but oh well.
you were seated next to some blonde girl that looked way too happy to be there. she looked somewhat familiar-- probably because of the pale golden hair you occasionally saw in paintings from the few churches you came across.
huh, weird.
the entire place was loud, it didn't help with the fact that it was a big room which made the noises even more ear-piercing and yet the girl didn't even seem to flinch, pale pink-ish eyes with the pupils blown out in some... creepy nerd way, starving for knowledge... you shouldn't have taken the seat next to her.
you slowly raised your hand to block your corner-vision of her, desperately looking at the polished tables and pray that the exams starts soon.
the place suddenly went quiet, with only the sound of echoing footsteps that seemed to linger for way too long, like the person was taking a leisure walk or that they wanted to make sure everyone heard them.
they slowly made their way towards the stairs and onto the tall platform, all with the same lethargic walk-- taking their sweet time towards the center of the stage and behind the wooden- almost completely covered with gold, podium.
they took a breath, blinking their vibrant green eyes--
"welcome! welcome for the passionate scholars-- welcome to the ambitious soon-to-be merchants and welcome to the determined potion-makers!
my name is odius prospero solomore. and i'm you senior--however, due to complications, i will occasionally take on the teaching role and substitute a couple of teachers, as you already know, there will be a pratical exam where you'd have to make a potion and i will supervise and judge who gets to study in this academy."
he shifted, taking in another breath, "so... with introductions done, we shall begin the pratical exam, today's potion we shall brew a lucky potion!"
in almost unison, the whole class-- except odius, lighted their stove on and put water inside the mini-cauldrons and started their potion brewing.
it was... boring. all you had to do is check the temperature of the potion, stirr everytime you add any ingredient, remove any chunks that didn't dissolve and keep people away from sabotaging it. you kept doing this until the potion received it's trademark honey color and the timer ran out.
he stood in front of each desk, a faint glimmer of a pale golden potion in his coat's inside pocket-- a safety precaution in case something goes wrong while consuming a failed potion.
the annoying spiciness of arrogance and narcissism, the acrid taste of stress and the bitterness of anxiety... those were the most common emotions that he could taste in all the student's potions.
he stepped to taste the next potion. sweet-- happiness and the soft tang of curiosity. he looked into girl's soft pink eyes, they we're almost shimmering.
they made eye contact, the girl looked away immediately with warm cheeks and a hand on her mouth, golden hair moving with her and fringes curling around her face like a halo.
he rubbed his neck and moved towards your potion. it was normal--it tasted like any normal luck potion he'd get from the market...
huh?
he took another sip, it was faint... apathy and boredom, it had an earthy taste-- like most teas he'd drink in a rainy day for warmt and comfort...
it was... melancholic but oh so nostalgic...
it felt like it washed off all those disgusting feelings and textures off his tongue.
it felt organized, stable and mellow--unlike the other potions...
it felt normal...
