Author's Note
This chapter is heavily inspired by this post right here- https://killerskillercaptain.tumblr.com/post/651108223452102656/hejchou-levi-becomes-an-even-better-character. (I have copied the link in the comments, so you can check it out if you are interested.)
And I know that Levi already wears his cravat in the No Regrets Ova, but this scene seemed really cool. And I didn't want to take it out.
                              I hope you like it!

The door creaks as Mae opens it ajar. The night is dark, and candle lights illuminate her house.
Levi follows behind her, scanning the red-bricked walls of her bungalow, and then the brown furniture inside it. Her house is big, bigger than the houses of most people in Jinae.
The lounge is plain, and its walls are vacant. There are two sofas, placed opposite each other, and a cherry wood table is in the center. Cold air slips through the window, blowing the curtains with its force. The fire in the hearth flickers and its embers fly everywhere.
The sofa dips as Levi sits down. Its material is coarse and a boring brown. A silence falls, and it's painfully awkward. Mae jogs through her mind, trying to find something to say.
"Would you like to have anything, water, fruit?"
"Tea," he speaks a little too quickly.
She nods, scurrying off to the kitchen, and his gaze trails behind her, through the small dining to the connected kitchen.
The breeze stills and the fireplace heats the room, but her house still seems cold. The walls are empty, and everything in the room falls bland.
He remembers his house in the Underground; it was meager and lacked furniture. But you could see Isabel's hair ties lying everywhere. And Farlan had this horrible habit of leaving his pen open on the desk. And one could always find a broom sitting in one of the corners.
Her house is big, but it lacks warmth and homeliness. There's nothing here that makes it look like her place.
The smell of tea wafts through the air, and Levi breathes it in. It's been so long since he has had some good tea. He rubs his hand in anticipation, but an aloof look is still plastered on his face.
The sound of footsteps bounces off the floor as Mae walks in with 2 cups of tea, and a book underneath the tray. She places it on the table, and Levi's posture visibly relaxes as he sees the drink in front of him.
It's light brown, not as dark as his usually is, but he doesn't think much of it. Only he knows how much he has missed his tea. His fingers reach forward, grabbing onto the rim of the cup, as he picks it up.
He brings the cup to his mouth and takes a big sip. The liquid enters his mouth, and his face scrunches up in disgust.
Everywhere on the surface, they make the same damned tea that tastes like shit. It's so diluted, filled with sugar and milk, that this shit doesn't even taste like tea anymore.
He bites back the remark of the tea being awful and the dirt that sticks to the back of the tables. He doesn't want to say something offensive and lose her help. So he keeps the tea aside and opens the book she brought instead.
Awkwardness settles once again; he flicks through the pages, without understanding a thing, and Mae stares at his long-forgotten tea.
He doesn't like it, and she can see it by the way the tea is kept aside, cold and a layer of cream forming over it.
