"Everyone understands the plan?" Phastos said as the Domo approached the smoking volcano. The thick smoke had started to take over the sky turning it dark. Meda looked to her left where Druig, Makkari, and Sersi stood nodding. She moved to stand next to Thena on Phastos' right.
"Distract Ikaris, try not to die. What could go wrong?" She said. Thena put a comforting hand on her shoulder and Meda stood a little straighter. Right now Thena was being fuelled by an intense hatred for the deviants and Meda needed to push back her anxiety so that she could keep up. She would not fail another friend.
Walking to the door of the Domo, Meda prepared herself to create steps down to the ground for the rest of the team. Sersi gave her a slight smile and Makkari wrapped her in a hug before they took off, Druig approached slowly stopping to look directly into Meda's eyes. He opened his mouth as if to say something and then closed it again.
"Be safe," she said saving him from having to come up with something to say. Pursing his lips he reached his hand out giving hers a squeeze before he too disappeared towards the ground.
"Shall we?" Thena says walking up to Meda. "Phastos has already left to take over the controls." She nodded and the pair headed to the statue room to wait for Ikaris.
With as much subtlety as could be expected of Ikaris, he crashed through the roof of the room landing with one hand down on the ground. He stood up slowly, walking menacingly towards were Meda and Thena stood.
"Where's Druig?"
"He's busy," Thena responded. A sword appeared in her hands and shot out towards Ikaris, but just as quickly Ikaris blocked it.
"Thena play nice now. You've never had to fight me before."
"But I have always wanted to."
Meda had started to step back slowly trying to circle around Ikaris but he smirked and spoke, stopping her in her tracks.
"The two of you are no match for me, you couldn't even protect Gilgamesh from a deviant. Our mission will be done on earth today even if I have to end you all to do it, starting with Druig."
Meda lunged at Ikaris with an angry yell. Turning his head towards Meda he shot a bolt of energy towards her but she managed to shield herself before it hit her, the force still strong enough to knock her back into the wall. Out the window Meda could see golden energy surrounding the rest of the team as they hovered a few feet off the ground.
Feeling a warm sensation, she felt her body lift up from the ground, a gold light surrounding her. Across the room Ikaris had Thena pressed up against the wall. Meda could see the smug smile Thena gave to Ikaris as she too rose up in a golden light. Snarling, Ikaris shot out from the room. Meda could feel an influx of energy into her body and could feel her power growing as the seconds passed. Then without warning the room was torn apart from another blast from Ikaris. The Domo began to drop from the sky. Meda ran to Thena and the pair made their way down the hall to where Phastos appeared on his way to them. The ground was approaching quickly so Meda created a force field around the group hoping to block some of the force of the crash.
The crashed knocked everyone to the ground but just as quickly as Meda hit the floor, she found herself out on the beach standing next to a shaken Phastos. Makkari appeared a moment later with Thena in hand.
"Thanks. Appreciate it," Meda signed, breathing heavily.
"Anytime," Makkari replied.
"Where's Ikaris?"
Before Makkari could respond a struggling figure was lifted high into the air. They were high enough that Meda could no longer make out the features, but she knew in her gut that it was Druig. She watched as Ikaris dropped Druig, and then shot him into the ground. The sound of Druig's body hitting the earth hit Meda like a punch to the gut. Beside her Makkari let out a guttural scream. If she had been in her right mind she might have noted that it was the first sound she had heard her friend make, but Meda's mind was blank.
Ikaris drifted down to the beach until he was hovering just a few feet off of the ground. He was alone facing off against the rest of the eternals, a fire raging in their eyes now after he hurt one of their own.
"Druig's gone. It's over. There's no way for you to win now. Just give up."
Quick as lightning, Makkari shot forward knocking into Ikaris sending him flying back into the rocky cliffside. Two swords appeared in Thena's hands and she took off to join the fight.
Sersi turned to Phastos and Meda, "I still need to try and stop this but I need to get closer to Tiamut. Keep Ikaris busy."
Gold strands formed around Phastos' hands and with a look of determination he said," we've got you, go."
Even with Makkari, Thena, Meda, and Phastos all focusing their energy on Ikaris, it was a tough battle. Ikaris had sent Makkari flying back into Meda, sending both of them skittering through the sand. A shadow passed over the pair as they helped each other up and Meda saw the deviant join in on the fight. A well timed swing from Thena distracted Ikaris long enough for the long tendrils to surround him. The deviant pulled Ikaris closer towards him and Meda watched in horror as it started draining his energy.
Phastos knocked the deviant off and away from Ikaris, earning him a glare from Thena.
"Why are you helping Ikaris?" she yelled across the beach.
"We can't let it absorb our powers."
"Too late."
Thena attacked the deviant and it retreated into a cave. She went to follow it pausing for a second to look at Meda. Meda's gaze panned from Thena to Ikaris, unsure of what to do, to get revenge for her lost friend, or to help her family save the world. By the time she looked back Thena had already gone.
"Thena, he's trying to provoke you," Phastos called after her but she didn't stop. "Meda?"
She watched Thena disappear into the cave after the deviant and in that moment knew what she had to do. Balling up her fists she turned to help Phastos and Makkari.
"Where's Sersi?" Ikaris was getting more and more frustrated as the fight continued.
Phastos who was clearly enjoying himself replied. "You always did underestimate her."
For a moment Ikaris looked confused before he turned to the volcano who's ash had blocked more of the sun now. He shot up from the beach but before he could get far a barrier appeared in front of him.
"Oh no.. not so fast," and with a pull of her arm Meda caused the barrier to crash down into the sand, bringing Ikaris with it. Phastos spread his arms and golden ropes wrapped around Ikaris tethering him to the ground.
"I don't know about you but this is really satisfying," he said. Meda just rolled her eyes.
"Let me go Phastos, I can't let her do this," He struggled against the restraints but Phastos' eyes glowed and the ropes tightened around him.
"I don't think so I have been wanting to clip your wings for a long time, Ikaris."
